Hi i am new to the workings of this site, but i am hoping someone could offer some advice as to which camera would be best for shooting in low light conditons eg churchs, dim receptions, and also for beauty work. I'm using x2 Nikon D80 with a 18-135mm lens and a Sigma 30mm 1.4mm lens. THese camera's have served me well but i feel i need to upgrade. I specialise in wedding and portrait photography.
I dont know whether to stick with Nikon or change to Canon. I like the work of some photographers using canons with a 50mm 1.2lens but is there something similar in the Nikon range? It might make more sense to stick with Nikon because i'm used to them..??
I would really appreciate any advice, thank u :)

a 2x D4 or D3s would be spot on, or Canon 2x 1Dx or 5DIII if you change brands. You'll need all new lenses anyway. I think a 50/1.4 will be good enough just like f/2.8 zooms.

Hi thank u, ideally i dont want to spend much more than £1000 or if anywhere sells with interest free late payment i could save a bit more!

If you need 2 bodies it could be D7000's. It has dual SD card slots which good for back up. Good ISO.

For wedding and portrait photography you'd do well to invest in some additional glass as well. £1,000 would get you a new D7000 plus a 50mm f/1.4 or an 85mm f/1.8, or maybe a 50mm f/1.8 and an 85mm f/1.8. Or maybe a used D300 and a 105mm f/2 DC?

Hiya, thank u for all your advice. I will check out all these and see whats best option. I think if i can manage with x1 upgrade and new lens until i become a millionaire and get a 3x lol! I see cliftoncameras.co.uk online, has anyone used this site before for buy now pay later? :)

For low light shooting you have to consider about two things one the size of the sensor and other one is the wide of the lens. Any camera which has more than 28mm and has a clear lens which can open wider would be great.

Hiya, i would really prefer a new camera for a higher iso range for low light. I'm not sure if the lenses i have would be suitable for a new camera, tho i wouldnt mind a new lens also as i love the whole bokeh effect with portraits :)

If you are going for a DX camera you might want to consider 17-55mm f/2.8. A pretty decent lens, could get a S/H from ebay for around £550.

I would try to get a Nikon D7000 & Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8 to begin with.

You could then get a 35mm f1.8 later and a Nikon speed light.

Riz :)
