I've just build a new PC for my youngest however I seem to have a problem. It might be a dead graphics card or there may be a compatibility issue.

I have a Gigabyte 970ADS3 motherboard and an MSI R7770 graphics card. All switches on, graphics card fan is one but there is no signal. I've tried two different monitors.

I have just noticed that the M/B is PCi v2.0 whilst the Graphics Card is PCi v3.0 Would this be an issue or is the graphics card backwards compatible?

I've gone for an AMD3+ build. But having looked quickly at Aria I can't find a decent graphics card that is PCi2.0 or a motherboard that is PCi3.0.

hang on, my 7850 is pci v3 and my asus board is v2.

are you sure your psu meets the requrement for the MSI R7770?

also have you tried it with RAM in different slots, one stick at a time etc.

Your graphics card will not even get close to saturating PCI-E 2.0 let alone 3.0.. so no worries there.

yeah theres not a lot of information on forwards/backwards compatibility.. there is apparently some backwards compatibilty between v3 and v2 but normally youd expect that to be the slot rather than the card..

anyhow it must work because mine is.

My first thought would be to check everything is seated corectly

Still playing around - got an older card in and that doesn't work either. Everything powers on just nothing out of the graphics card. Also tried both in the other PCi x4 slot and that still doesn't work.

Dont suppose the motherboard has onboard graphics you can try?

oooops :exit:

Seems like someone forgot to plug in the ATX_12 power connector.

All works now - thanks for all your help.
