Hi all,

My friend has just had a baby and has asked me to go round to their place late this afternoon and to take some photographs of her.

My plan is to have her lying down on a plain towel or maybe a blanket next to a window, but I'm not sure about clothing? I've seen many baby pics on Flickr for example where the baby is just in their nappy, but wouldn't the baby get cold like this, and is there any problem with taking the pics whilst she wears clothes?

Never taken baby shots before, will definitely be interesting :). Any tips you can throw at me will be greatly appreciated as always  thanks.

Thanks all for your help :).
- John.

You've worked out exactly what the problem is - now what do you think the solution might be?

You could look it up or ask, but I bet now you've put your finger on the issue, the answer becomes obvious.

Oh yeah, and good luck, windowlight will be great, use reflectors carefully and play white noise to keep the baby comfy.

He IS asking.
Seems he's not having much luck though.
John I don't have any suggestions because I avoid shooting kids like the plague.
I hope someone comes along with some useful tips for you.
And good luck!

Hi all,

Thanks so much for your help :). I went to take them today (got a bit delayed). Was a challenge because it was night so had to use a LED video light for very gentle lighting. The baby was asleep but aah well ;). In post processing I had to up the exposure (should've used exposure compensation) as I think it looks really nice a bit over-exposed slightly and obviously because of all the white the camera got confused.

Also added a bit of noise removal through lightroom to soften the face and skin a tiny bit.

Took about 15, only liked about 3 but that's photography :).

Luckily the parents said they are more than happy for me to show it to others as my work, so here is one of my favourites. They also said that they are surprised with what I can do and want me to do it throughout the baby's life for memories :) :
