I have redesigned my website and I am looking for a bit of feedback and constructive criticism. I have just had the SEO rated and it is still pretty poor, despite working on it all day. I suppose once I start updating the blog and things it should get higher ratings.

Any way thoughts please.

Only had a quick looksy and noticed ...
you need some hover styles on the primary nav.
and the logo should really link back to the homepage

SEO wise, don't expect instant results and dont put too much faith in SEO rating calculators, remember there is no substitute for really good content!
If you keep writing the blog regularly, stick to the basic SEO principles and concentrate on your writing style and quality of content, you'll be laughing.

Also consider adding a short description about the photo to the gallery pages, they will then get found for long-tail searches which is a great way of bringing in lots of little hits.

What do you mean by hover styles? With photium I don't think there is a way of putting a link onto the header image, but it would be better so I will look into it in more depth.

He means so when you hover over the links in the navigation, the style changes (i.e. it underlines the link you're hovering over), so you know you're hovering over a live link.

I'd also change the image to a homepage link, but certainly not all people will look for it, I tend to use the back button more than anything tbh.

Can photium do URL rewrites? For example,

http://www.freedomlightphotography.co.uk/page10178.html

would look much better (and be better for SEO) as

http://www.freedomlightphotography.co.uk/professional-photography-tutorials.html

I'd also split the two sections, trips, and tutoring into their own sections.

HTH :)

Hi

The <title> tag is the most important tag for SEO so i would also include your name there.
Also, try and incorperate some of your Keywords in a couple of <h1> tags

Your Meta description shows content="For professional portraits in Newcastle and Northumberland". I would personally expand this to include other keywords you are trying to rank high for.

Put more emphasis on the meta description than mete keywords as most search engines do not care anymore about the meta keywords but that is not to say do not use them.

Make sure you register your domain with Google, try and work hard to et some relavent backlinks as well

In a competitive market like photography, excellent on page SEO isnt enough, you need to look at off page SEO. All the sites on page 1 will have dont this, which is why you need to

SEO isnt a thing that takes a day, it can take 1/4 to 1/2 year of very hard work

I like the site, but when I opened the page safari wasn't the full width of the screen (about 3/4) and some of the navigational links were underneath your logo, which could be a little inconvenient.
I love the first pic of the slideshow!

i wouldnt put the link to the wedding section (well not yet) as you have not parked your domain. so when you click on the link its not valid.

In the Gallery tab I think the position of the folder description looks a little messy sat above the picture. It may look more pleasing if the description sat to the right centre of the folder thumb nails?
Just a thought.

My screen (1280 x 800) means you have to scroll down a little to see whole of images on home page.

Logo could do with a little work, look at the spacing between text lines on Freedom Light and then the photography by Darren O'Brien it just does not look balanced, maybe also play with the text kerning to align Photography by and Darren O'Brien

Gallery page just looks a little cluttered, some with description, some without and first travel photo looks like a landscape to me which has 0 photos, just confusing.

Contact page text blends together to me. Use of colour or Bold on headings e.g. Phone would help make this clearer to the eye. Also why email link and contact form on same page? In fact 3 pages have contact forms, which is a bit OTT. Maybe a contact me for more info on each page with a mail to link on the text would work better?

Personal thing, but I do not like links pages is main headings, maybe in footer would be better, remember every one they click takes them away from you!

Personally I don't get the different site for weddings? Maybe a page that becomes the wedding page, links to separate galleries etc. might make more sense.

Lastly more images in each section or reduce the amount of gallery types. Build up a portfolio of images on one of your subjects, then when you have a decent amount (10 or more?) set up a gallery. You prob working on putting more in, but that is how I see it.

As always constructive criticism, nothing personal (hopefully people always take my website crit this way) I am harsh and may seem picky, but then again so is the average client.
