Well i've been a bit of a crazy boy over the xmas period and now have in my hands a lovely New 70-200mm f2.8 VR lens, and all I can say is WOW what a lens. It very sharp and fast. :D

Anyone else have this lens and what do they think of it.

Here is a my first shot with it at full 200mm taken on a moving escalator about 10mins after getting it ;)

Damn, you, I hate you so much.

I've got a topic going about the sigma version of this lens and this is well out of my price range.

if you get bored of it, I will gladly recycle it for you :D, for free of course lol.

I've had it for a couple of years and when I was using a DX body it was the lens that lived on camera. Amazing for sport, weddings and actually a bloody good portrait lens for something a little different. So so sharp and the bokeh is some of the best.

Unfortunately there is a little too much vignetting with my D3 and it has now gone from a fantastic lens to a bloody good lens. the 300 2.8 and the 24-70 are the two stand outs for me now.

You will absolutely love it on the D300 though :D

Congrats on the new toy! Its a cracking lens! ;) Its the lens I use most. The more you use it the more it will become part of your life. :D
I've just sorted one for a mate of mine today at my local dealer. They've quoted about £1160 and a 2wk delivery time.
Enjoy! ;)

Yeh the bokeh on it is amazing and this was the the main reasons I went for it. Its on my D300 so it goes well together. Price wise I paid silly money for it.... get ready for it.... £600

Right place at right time, someone selling it with more money then sence. Still cant believe I have this lens :woot:

I not only hate you but I actually want to beat you to death now :bang:

Have a look at what Bjorn says about the probs with the 70-200 and the D3. I don't really have an issue with softness around the edges like many as landscapes not my thing but the vignetting is noticeably stronger wide open, not a show stopper just downgrades the lens a little to me. I'll try and dig something out as an example.

On the D3, however, issues occur with this lens. A certain amount of vignetting when the lens is set wide open is both to be expected and indeed readily visible. But stopping down one or two clicks resolves that issue nicely. The centre sharpness is excellent even on the D3, but the tendency for the corners lacking critical sharpness when the lens is focused towards infinity at its longer end is unexpected and troublesome. For landscapes at 200 mm, you need to stop down way too far to get the corners just barely acceptable, even to f/22 in some cases. I think the covering power of this slim design simply is not adequate for a good performance across the entire FX frame, at least towards the 200 mm setting. For PJ-style work or for studio and portraiture, this flaw is tolerable, but not for landscapes. Nikon really needs to come up with a Mk.II model of this general-purpose zoom lens.

Must say if you use this lens it would only take one little bash to head to kill me, The things Bloody heavy

Built like a bloody tank isn't it :D

Travelled through some very dodgy parts of the world with it and often thought it would be a good weapon if I ever got mugged.

Just wait till you get a proper lens then! :p

Well went I met up with Deigo (Pete) a few weeks ago I had a go on his D3 & 300mm f2.8 VR and that was mentally heavy and like lifting weights :D, shame he has sold it all now and gone back to Canon

Bought this lens myself too just before xmas. I had rented it before from lensforhire when I went to Goodwood FoS and wanted it from back then. Doesn't feel as heavy as back then when I had used it.

Enjoy bud:thumbs:

I'm off for a couple of days this week to see Pete so will get some more shots then and post them up. Got my new Nikon 50mm f1.4G AF-S arriving tomorrow so I think that's my kit sorted now. Time to go out and take some pictures and enjoy it.

I took the plunge and bought it a week before xmas! Got it used from Mifsuds £999 with 3 months warranty, you can't tell its used ***, good as new. I'm well pleased with it, it rarely leaves my camera. I love it! Superb quality, build wise and performance.
Was concerned at first it might be too heavy as it was the 1st pro lens I'd used, but after a week of using I don't find it heavy at all anymore.

Looking forward to it our Kid.

For those not in the know, Scott and I used to be top boys in a soccer casual firm back in the 1980's.

Alternatively,

We are two blokes who met at a party.

Alternatively,

We went to school together.

The choice is yours, but then it could be all three

I rented one of these lenses before Xmas (from lensesforhire) and was very impressed with it for quality, VR, and speed of focusing. I will get one, with a 1.7 teleconverter for extra reach. But this event will have to wait until March when enough cash has accumulated. Unless someone else has a mint one for sale at £600!

Cheers.
