New 60d or 2nd hand 7d?

I'd defiantly take the used 7D just for the build body and auto focus
 
Hi. I've used a 7D from a few weeks after they became available and it handles everything really well. The 60D is lighter, if that matters to you, because is hasn't the Mag Alloy chassis previous models had. I'd kill for a flip out screen tho as close up and macro are my thing.

Something that hasn't been mentioned is the viewfinder in the 7D which is amazingly bright. I recently compared it side by side with a 5D2 and was astonished to see how big the difference was when both using f2.8 macro lenses. Just the job for low light work.

My older 17-55mm f2.8 has a name for gathering dust but I've yet to see that. Perhaps I've been lucky but these lenses are so sharp and easy to use it's a no brainer.

I use that famous auction site a lot and if you buy from someone who's described their equipment as Mint or As New you won't go wrong. Just make sure they have lots of feedback to their name.

I find adverts that skimp on details are the ones to be wary of. They don't want to openly discuss condition and may have something to hide.

The 7D can be purchased new for £999 now so don't pay into the nine hundreds for a used one.

I was in a similar situation recently. The only benefit the 60D gave was:

a) Twisty out screen (also good for static macro work)
b) Movie crop mode

Both of which mainly affect video making, which is only a tiny portion of my use.

I put in an offer for a 2nd hand 7D on here for ~£900 which I missed (twice!), so I opted for a new 7D in the end from Dixons for £1026.86.

I didn't want to regret getting the 60D and eventually upgrading to the 7D further down the line.
 
If your shooting the MotoSport's then the 7d would be much better suited? Far more AF points, and the Af really is quite good. I have a friend who shoots MountainBike's and moved from a 1dmk1 to a 7D and he reckons the AF is just as good!
 
Does anyone use the 7D with a 24-105 lens as their everyday walk about lens? and how does it perform if so please?

In the end I went for the 60D as it was at a great price from Best Buy with £150 Cash Back.

I also tried the 7D but thought it was just too big and "pro" for my domestic use and felt the 60D better suited me.

I'd have also had to get memory if I went for a 7D as I currently use SD cards in my compact.

This has been asked many times and the answer has always been, if you shoot wider than 24mm or if you want a faster lens, the 24-105 is not ideal for you.

what does the term faster actually mean in relation to lenses.

I meant spot AF. Feature that reduces the effective size of the AF point chosen to allow it to be more targeted. Great Dornoch accuracy on static subjects.

Interesting to hear the focusing is similar to that of a 1dMK1!

The auto focus alone is swaying me more to the 7d.

Memory is a good point. I have got one sd card but two current cf cards so there would be a saving by using my existing cf's.

US version comes with a 2 pin charger and the warranty will be with Canon UK apparently.
 
I went for the 7D well pleased with its AF and high speed continuous shooting is woooow, obviously you need a fast CF card to go with it
 
Well PC World have the 7d for £1162.99 less 7% via discount code and 3% quidco so a saving of £116.29 = £1046.69.

Will call into my local Jessops to see if they will price match.......
 
Can the discount codes be used in store, or are they online only? I was looking at the discounts online today via student discount sites, and the one you mention looked good :)

Great minds think alike eh ! Jessops is coming out tops at the moment - for 12 months interest free option lol, but price is higher than other sellers. Interesting to see whether they price match though :)
