Yes
I understand that Canon normally replace a model every eighteen months or so. If my memory and maths serves me correctly then a replacement must be due soon. Has the rumour mill started yet and what is it saying?

Also, where is the best place to find any advance news on such Canon releases?

The product cycle on the 5D line is more like 3 years. 18 months would apply to xxD and about 12 months for xxxD

2.5 - 3 years sounds about right. The xxD and xxxD series have the same product cycle length though e.g. 10D / 300D, 20D / 350D / 5D, 30D / 400D, 40D / 450D, 50D / 500D / 5D MkII, 60D / 550D

Since the 5D mk 2 is basically a cut down 1Ds mk 3, I doubt we will be seeing the mark 3 until at least six months after the long delayed 1Ds mk 4 comes out. If I had to bet, I can't see it appearing until the back end of next year at the earliest.

And I am still happy with my MK I... love it... the only thing id change is the larger brighter LCD...

I hate how all the good cameras now have to have video too... when I eventually replace my 5D mkI I hope I can get a full frame canon that does not shoot video! Im a photographer not a cinematographer

I think your going to have a big problem finding your future full frame body without the video option, talking with the Canon guys at this years Solutions show, video is here to stay I'm affraid. I'm actually with you on this one, but I guess that Canon like the other brands have to keep pushing to the next level and see how the market reacts.

theres a lot of muttering about canon scrapping the 1ds4 because its a bit neither fish nor foul. Then upgrading the hell outta the 5d3 (think 7d) and going somewhere different with the full frame 1 series like a modular/red camera. Though its just muttering atm but I'd be very intruiged

Re: video. It costs virtually nothing to add it to cameras now. If you don't want to use it, don't press the record button ;)

I read this rumour, seems that a large number of pro's have opted to save money and buy 5D2's rather than buy a 1Ds3. Not sure how true this really is but next year will be interesting to see where Canon goes. Could be a grain of truth in it, as many have been expecting the 1Ds4 for a while now.

aye, and I'm pretty sure my 5d2 wins in low light, if it had 7d AF and mebe the commander I'd give my right nut for it :D

Its was the this that made me decide to get the 7D. I had heard that the 5D3 was coming out next year, I opted to get my crop body now and save a few quid then get the 5D2 next year once the price has dropped thanks to a newer release.

however, If they decide the 5D3 is going to be a mash-up of full frame goodness but with the AF of the 7D I may be tempted :D

I suppose video is a freebie in some respect. Once you have live view it is just a software exercise to record it. I appreciate you have to develop the software but once it is written that's it, unless the find a bug in it.

I know I know.... I just hate having more buttons and features on something that I wont use... as its just a function that could go wrong... when I dont need it!

I sorta wish someone would produce a fully manual Digi SLR camera... something of the ilk of a retro olympus OM2... ok maybe with autofocus... but something that I could go out with and do a bit of old school togging... but with the processing advantages of digital!

I love technology but I hate having things on things I dont need! That said I love my iphone and ipad! But I have a use for them! I just dont get the thing with video!

I wish they would release it now! Not because I want it now but because by the time I do want it the price would be just right!!
