so....this is the scam of buying in the overpriced uk.. prices expected below after some internet searches..

usa USD 3499 £2223

uk £2999

hongkong HKD 27480.00 £2250

grrrrr!

But im still upgradeing!...

Do we really need to go through this again?

The Forex rates that you've used are commercial, the USD-STG conversion is more like £2300.

Add approx 6% Customs duty and then 20% VAT and the figures start to look more sensible.

Just to add for the record, Canon had no problem accepting my Kerso receipt for a 600D cashback at Christmas, nor have I had any other issues transferring money to Ian.

Tbh, I've only heard of a couple of reports to the contrary. It's more a CPS thang than warranty for me anyway! :)

How can you have a UK based shop, turn over in excess of the VAT threshold registration and not have to charge VAT to customers?
Would you also buy from a website without an address?

Just curious...

Look back through this thread.

Kerso is very well known and very well renowned.

I have also bought many lenses from Kerso and they are registered on my CPS no problems.

Edit: Finland CPS.

That is of no concern to me whatsoever. ;)

No I would not.......apart from this one;)

Just curious...

Ditto - never had a problem registering anything with CPS. They don't like having my 400D and 600D included but it's a handy place to keep all my serial numbers online.

Ths US price is before the sales tax

Years ago, I bought the 70-200 f2.8 IS, actually I got my cousin who lived in NJ to buy from BH Photo (she lived on the other side of the Hudson), and as she was buying out of state, there was no sales tax to pay, as NJ has no inter-state sales tax (at least BH Photo don't add any sales tax when selecting to deliver to NJ).

Very useful, especially as the £1 was getting me $2.04c at the time!

There's an address in the whois lookup. May not be his but it's something.

Canon Professional Services

I got my canon 70-200 f2.8 L mk2 from kerso saved a couple of hundred and a pleasure to do business with,L lenses come with international warrantys anyway so was no worries there :)

Bought pretty much all of my gear from Ian, bar the first lens I ever bought and my 7D. I've often sent money to him via BT without issue. He's very reliable and a man of his word. I definitely wouldn't hesitate buying from him now that I know he'll offer warranties on camera bodies.

Why has this thread (like so many others) got right away from the original point of the thread which was the 5DMkIII?

I have no interest in the comparisons of price etc to the USA which ultimately has no real bearing on the price over here, nor on the merits of Kerso who, as far as I can see offers an excellent service to all members and has done so for years, so I fail to see why a few members seem to be trying to call his integrity into question.

If they feel that strongly perhaps they should start a separate thread on that subject and NOT hijack a totally different subject.

I feel the mods should close this thread since it is no longer related to the original purpose.

.

Just exactly how many pages do you think that a thread can stretch to without drifting off its original theme?

The 5D3's a great looking camera, but it's not that (ie 430 posts) interesting.

There's always the unsubscribe option of course! :)

I do find it a bit funny that I posted High ISO RAW files etc from the camera and no one seems to be interested but we do have several pages on Kerso.

Well I'm interested in the high ISO aspect of the camera because it seems extraordinarily good but as you say there seems little point in trying to intrest people in that when they'd rather squabble over something completely unrelated.

I'm interested :)
Looked back 5 pages and couldn't find them.

Please can I see a 100% crop of an ISO 3200 RAW with minimal tweaking or noise reduction. Ta

If you go here:

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/canon-5d-mkiii/canon-5d-mkiiiA7.HTM

you can download the full size JPEGs or RAW files.

The interesting thing though, to my mind, is that if you download the 5D III JPEG file at 3200 ISO and also download the 5D Mk II 100 ISO file and compare them the difference is minimal apart from some extra smoothness on the 100 ISO file.

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/E5D2/E5D2hSLI00100_NR_STD.HTM

(enlarge each to get the full size image)

And in fact if you look at the protractor thing at the right hand size the resolution is extraordinarily almost the same in the 2 files, in fact to my eye, the resolution seems slightly better on the 5D III 3200 ISO!

And there seems to be only a minimal loss of resolution in the 2 pictures of the orange paintbrush bristles next to the protractor.

And a comparison of the 2 at 100 ISO definitely shows better resolution from the 5D Mk III.

I'm not doing the crops for you on my iPhone though!

I think those JPEGs are out the camera JPEGs and have noise reduction and sharpening already applied.
Not really possibly to compare those JPEGs with the 5DII as the settings and conversion engine is SO important.
Besides - I don't use out the camera JPEGs so have no experience for making that judgement :)

What I'd like to see is the 5DIII RAW converted to a JPEG with minimal tweaking.
That would be for much better direct comparison with my 5DII images.
But it needs someone who has got the latest ACR installed to do the conversion. LR4 has not yet been upgraded.

Which would provide better results as far as ISO is concerned; letting the camera do the noise reduction or to do it with 3rd party software?

I think that's hard to say, depends on the third party software, some are better than others.
