New 5D MK3 revealed

And I've just spotted the first 'reasonably priced' pre-order - assuming it's correct.

Digital Rev have it on their website as a delivered price of just over £2500.

5d3 for nearly reasonable money

That's extortionately expensive from DR, if Kerso is offering a unit price of £2,600.

That's definitely more like it. I could be seriously tempted to buy straight away at that price.

Presumably both DigitalRev and Kerso will be selling imports. What's the rub with import bodies? I've always been a bit wary, I'm not sure why. Is there any difference other than a non-UK power lead? How about warranty?

No warranty

Is so:) you will not find a bad word anywhere about Ian on the net.

Except that it's not really within his gift as to whether Canon UK accept his VAT receipt or not (something that you don't get with DR).

but ian has said many times that if canon uk didn't honor his uk warranty then he would hnor it with the buyer and not let them down, so I think as long as you buy from kerso you are good to go

Exactly !

Hmmmm

That's a decent price from Ian.... I could seriously be tempted......

I don't know if anyone has had a firm price from Ian at £2600 but bear in mind his words were "in the region of"

"Stock ordered upon request (approx. 1 month)"

Personally, I'd not be happy with that's just me.

That'll just be a holding statement as they need to wait until the thing is actually delivered. DR seem to have a good rep and offer their own Warranty (http://www.digitalrev.com/help/terms-of-product-warranty/NDE_A). I seem to remember it basically being you end up shipping to an authorised service centre locally and they pay. I can't find that anywhere though....

TBH, I wouldn't worry about buying from either Digital Rev or Kerso. I've spent a fair amount with Kerso in the past and would do the same with DR if it saved significant money.

That was the firm price I had, and I'm on the preorder list at that price, so I guess it should be the same for others too. It's not clear yet if/what the BT discount will be on that price though.

Nothing against DR and understand why they have to put it, I'm just never keen on pre-ordering but again it's just me lol

Bit of a risk buying from kerso via bank transfer
So pay via another means and take the small %age price surcharge.

Last time I bought from Ian, I paid by BT - I didn't want the surcharge on >£3k....

No warranty

It may not be the 'same warranty' but it's certainly not 'no warranty'.

Yes it may be a little more hassle to process - but you do have warranty coverage with DR - and certainly do have coverage from Kerso....

These bodies are considerably cheaper than standard UK sales - and there is a tiny addiional risk as a result..

However realistically - in all the bodies I've bought, I've never had to return one. Yes sometimes things go wrong, but statistically I'm prepared to take that chance for a £500 saving...

Kerso's stuff is generally UK repaired - as is DR... There are other sources you could buy from, where it's particularly more complicated.. but both of these sources have served the TP community well over recent years..

Why not? Every other site is the same? Jessops, Warehouse Express etc..

They are all pre-orders. Nobody has them.

As they become available - they'll be shipped on a first come first served basis - no matter where you order from...

Pretty standard I'd have said..

I have paid cash to Ian's sister in Buchaven for all my lenses, I travel up from Alnwick Northumberland and combine it with a day out on the beautiful Fife coastline:)

I think others have already commented on this :) but again please don't try and scare people off. Kerso has from what I can see a very good repuation here. I've not personally purchased from him, but with the number of TP'ers I've seen that have, if there was any 'funny business' we'd have heard of it by now...

Just search and see the positive comments (and the lack of negative comments) before jumping in with a statement that again would put people off :)

That's a nice idea :) Not sure his sister will be pleased to see 20 of us turn up though

If DR and Kerso are at these prices at launch, I wonder at what levels they'll sit after a few months... Will they get to £2250? Or even the magical £2lk? It'll be interesting to see how things develop...

Would you care to expand on that thought?

So is ian proper reliable? do many people transfer big money to Ian?

Ahh ok cool man. good to know that! im not trying to scare people off mate but in this very same thread, people said you dont get a warranty if you buy from import.

So if something goes wrong how do DR and kerso deal with it?

Yes and Yes

So if something goes wrong how do DR and kerso deal with it?

differently.

Kerso provides a UK receipt with VAT paid. Send the equipment to canon UK with the receipt to get UK warranty. He has never had a problem with this. In the event that canon refused the warranty Ian will take care of it personally.

DR offer local repair but it has to be proven to them that it is a manufacturer issue in writing first. If it is proven by the repair centre then they will honor the repair. You pay the repair centre and then get the money off DR. Or you can have them pick up the camera from your house and they will return it to HK to repair at their cost - just takes longer

Sounds like Kerso is more reliable for warranty? i might take a punt. just afraid of dropping serious money on someone i have never met lol.

Big gamble on my part lol

It's a proper bonafide business, had you met the board of directors at Amazon before clicking 'Buy Now'?...

It just happens to be that the owner has a personal presence on this forum and deals directly with orders. Win win, really.

My father in law has bought from kerso he was on his way to see family in Scotland so killed two birds with one stone and met him said he was a really nice guy. Oh and spent quite a few 100 quid.

are they same price as what he offers via BT?

Some of the prices seem same as amazon, like the 35L lens

no he charges more than the bank transfer on the site as it is through paypal and their are paypal fees.

Some prices will be the same because some lenses are similar price here than in the states
