Hi

Just bought myself a 5D mark III camera. I currently have adobe cs3 and dont want to splash out on adobe 6. Does anyone know of any converter program I can download so I can open the RAW files.

Thanks

You could try Adobe DNG converter. Then you can use CS3. Alternatively, why not use the software that came with the camera, Digital Photo Professional? That will process the RAW files.

Adobe DNG convertor might be good. You don't have to go for CS6 you know, CS5 will open them, not much of a saving I know but...

Indeed what they said. Also with the trial of cs6 comes the latest bridge downloaded which has an option to convert to dng on the fly as it downloads, my cs3 bridge wouldn't do this, not sure atm if it should! I haven't used the photoshop end of the cs6 trial yet, still at 30 days as I haven't started it... But the Bridge bit works fine and then I just use my bought cs3 bridge/PS.

Yeah I've the tried the dng converter and it doesn't work.

Maybe I just need to update it then or download the newest version.

I had a similar nightmare but with updates I've got mine going. But still annoying how they won't update the older software which should be so easy for them

Then we won't be giving Adobe stupid amounts of money every 18months for a piece of software that is bloated beyond reason :)

I doubt CS3 will open them unless the RAW converter can be updated, which is a long shot.

Canon DPP software that comes with the 5Dlll will open the files no problem

CS3 can't open them directly, it stopped being updated a while back, long before the 5d3 shipped. the only way really is the dng converter if you want to use photoshop.

Have updated the dng converter and still wont open the files in adobe cs3.
Surely there must be away around it without purchasing adobe 5 or 6!:bang:

You need the latest version of dng converter, but you use the 4.6 version of camera raw, that should work, you haven't used the latest camera raw have you?

I had this problem with a new camera, so until I could afford a CS upgrade, I used DPP to convert them to tiffs, then used CS 3 afterwards..not ideal but it worked ok. Couldn't get to grips with DPP for actual manipulation.
