Why would someone buying a 1dsmk111 need time to get used to it.....?????

I am not a pro....far from it. Just an ordinary working class bloke who enjoys having nice things. I suddenly found myself in the fortunate position of being able to afford a top class camera after a lifetime of owning humdrum equipment. Therefore I need to study the manual. I am sorry but I did not realize I had commited a crime. I thought this was a nice place to be....hmmmm.

Great camera, they're only jealous and this is a great place

Looking forward to seeing some pics from your new toy
You should do some real browsing of the forum, Mitch is right, you'll find loads of help & advice here no matter what level you're at or what equipment you own (I even own & Nikon & they're still nice to me  ;))

I thought those comments were a bit unkind, nothing wrong with buying the best. If you gain a lot of pleasure in owning one of the best DSLR's available despite having to read the manual there is no crime in that.
You have been into photography now for 40 years so you will have no problem "once you get used to it".
Enjoy your new camera, ignore those comments, and continue posting on the forum where there are plenty who will help you get the best out of it.

Thanks Guys. Love your avatar Galaxy, I love cavaliers. I checked out your web site as well Moomike and the photo of the little tri-coloured cavalier bounding over the grass made me chuckle....great photo.

The Canon 1Dsmk111 is Canons top of the range digital camera it is fair to ask the question of somone who has bought one and who confesses to "having to read the book to see what it's all about" why then did you get the most advanced camera of its type on the market ? We have the answer Bobby Canon enjoy it and it isn't a crime and I mean't no offence.

If your answer had been I have never used a digital camera before in my life I suspect old Galaxies response may have been somewhat different.

By the way I have a 1Dsmk11 so if you need any help understanding the bells and whistles just give me a shout.

Here here. Go ahead and enjoy (and its always a good idea to read the manual before you start I find it helps). Lets see some pics.:thumbs:

I wish I had enough money for a 1Ds, the MKIII looks so amasing, it's just stupidly expensive :(

(I even own & Nikon & they're still nice to me  ;))

Thats only because your a mod and have the power to change our user tag if we're not:razz:

Edit noted,but a bit late I imagine

Was it fair to ask in the manner you adopted. I don't think so.
I note you do not question Madmitches response to the unfair comments and question only old Galaxies response. I take it the "old" bit was a dig at me:lol::lol::lol:

Old is a colloquialism of endearment or friendship totally misinterpreted above unfortunately as is the written word more often than not. Sometimes people need to read what they themselves have written before they start denigrating people...note to mods indeed I am not surprised.

must say I'm venomator coloured
I'm looking for a new body
I'd just love to get my hands on a 1Ds Mk III
just out of (wallet's) reach tho
do let us know how you get on with it:thumbs:

Come on LADIES get real the guy is just celebrating getting a new camera. He should be allowed to enjoy the moment without petty comments being made.:bonk:
He started it:D and I let him finish it:D

Sorry, I seemed to have offended by my comment agreeing with above. Perhaps in jealousy. Seriously though, I apologize for my comment. I hope you enjoy the camera. You have in my opinion the best DSLR on the market at the moment (excluding Med format type). You will find the picture quality increase from cheaper models, and the camera should last you for quite some time. Don't be afraid to use it, it's build well and is designed to be used.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy using it.

Bobby I know you will enjoy your camera it will produce images that lesser cameras can't get anywhere near to now you have the camera of course you will need lenses and for that camera it would be a waste of time putting anything other than quality lenses on the front. The 24-70L is a great lens and you should get some stunning results with that combo. Depending on what you intend to shoot of course the next lens I would go for for that camera would be the 70-200 f2.8 L IS a good version of that lens on your camera will astound you believe me the detail, colour and contrast will knock you for six.

Cheers

Nicely done people for keeping this thread in line, if someone works their ass off in order to buy the best they can afford then more power to them imo, they should be able to enjoy what they have earned

Thanks everyone for their comments. Thanks for the apologies. Now I will get on enjoying it :)

Would like to see the ISO performance, as I might upgrade my 1DS MK11 for one and my MK11N for the MK3 if I can find reasons to do so.

Bobby, I'm really jealous, mine's sitting in Phoenix AZ just now waiting for my mate to bring it over.... won't get it till middle of the month. And this is a friendly forum, don't worry!!

George

You enjoy that beast bobby canon.

I will take a small wager that says you did start playing with a few buttons before reading the book. ;)

I never read a manual in my life I don't think before my 1D II but that just had to be done as these 1d's are stupidly packed with setup options.

Well I wil be moving from a mk1 to a mk 3 and from what I have read in the spec, the focus setup looks to be a bit of a challenge to say the least! Can't wait to try, though!

That is where the manual may not be too clear, and I suspect some of us will be swapping setups on the forum!!

There is a good piece of setup somewhere which refers to the 1Dmk 3 and will therefore be applicable to the Ds mk3, I'll post a link when I fiind it.

Ouch, 6 grand is an awful lot of dosh.
If I were a Canon user Id be seriously tempted by the 1D and spend the extra on glass.
I bet you cant wait to get shooting with it mate.
Cant wait to see some shots.
Nice one.

Bob, get it in the US and you won't pay 6 grand!!

You will love it, the 1Dsmk3 is one of the best cameras i have ever used and the best i have ever owned, Like has been said there are a lot of new settings and menus but they all come to make sense in the end.

Buying from the USA saved me approx £1900 on the UK £6K price.

Shop around and save money.

Yea, MHO, mine's costing just under the 4 grand as I bought the $ at 2.08.

Nice.

I had mine shipped to a friend out of state so didnt get any NY tax applied, I then had to wait nearly a month for him to fly over and bring it with him when he visited family here in the UK.

That's exactly whai I am doing, but there were less deliveries over there compared to here.
Hope we're not hijacking this thread, suspect there will be a few threads when more people get them.
how do you find the focus, mho?
George
