when my wife, out of the blue mentioned she liked one of my shots.

I'd left an A4 print lying around in my office, it's a shot of Guildford Castle. She came to me and said she'd seen it, and why didn't I get an enlargement and frame it.
Well....you could have knocked me down with an empty 35mm cassette.

Normally anything photography related is treated as an irritant unless either her horses or Grandchildren are the subjects.

My gast is well and truly flabbered....just wanted to share...
 
Same for my wife i.e. she is only interested in shots of the family :(
 
This would seem to be the way it is wives.....mine glazes over at the mention of anything photographic.

My wife thinks almost anything I photograph that isn't the kids is a waste of time and money.

However I genuinely think she has come round to the understanding that my hobby will at the very least provide an interesting (and sometimes well focused and composed :lol:) record of our kids' childhood that most other people simply don't have (or will lose when their iPhone breaks). Just before Christmas we redecorated the hall/stairs/landing and she, not me picked out a lot of photos of the kids that I'd taken and we put them up. Other people have Venture-style high key portraits of their kids on the walls, which all look the same as the ones in everyone else's house. We have my amateurish but real photos (ie portraying the kids doing things we've actually done - days out, holidays, trips to the park, painting a picture, playing a game etc). Felt like a victory! :lol:

Photography is the first hobby I've had (I've had a few), that my wife of 25 years actively likes me doing. For that reason, I know I'll stick with it :)

I agree, especially this bit. all my friends have these and they all look the same. However they are also starting to think that having a shot taken by me isn't such a bad idea so later this year I shall be doing them...ooer.... in film and medium format.

Well said.

I hope I never see a high key photo of a child jumping in the air holding their siblings hand.....yawn.

Great to see proper photos of real memories on the wall.
