Essentially I've never really had a good experience with Netgear, their support/CS is terrible too. Hence the negative stance.
A better solution for that sort of cash would be the unifi kit from Ubiquiti which is getting a lot of praise right now -

Maybe 2 or 3 of the AP Lite dual band access points (£80/ea), plus their 8 port switch with 4 Power over Ethernet sockets (£135). Plus a reel of Cat5e, plugs and crimper.
Bit of extra effort to drill and run cable but would be a far superior option for that sort of cash.
Alternatively if that work doesn't appeal then you could pretty much fill your house with dual band TP-Link extenders for that sort of money TP-LINK RE450 (£50/ea). Or if you only have the 1 dead spot the AV1200 dual band powerline TL-WPA8630 KIT (£110)
