well im off on hols in 5 days and didnt want to take my 17" laptop so was looking for alt options of transferring data from my sd cards while away ( i only have 2 cards ) . options were a databank device but these are very expensive.. buy more sd cards or try and find a cheap netbook.
luck would have it i found a samsung NB30 plus on ebay .. immaculate condition and only £45..
intel atom cpu 1.66 ghz cpu, 250gb hard drive and all important SD card slot.
anyway it arrived today and its great!
in fact im typing this on it now..
had an old laptop and took out the 2gb ram stick and put it in the netbook which originally had 1gb and then got to cleaning out some of the unimportant stuff like games, the norton and office trials etc.
so a few hours later i thought ok so what can i use to view and edit raw files... and so went on the hunt.. so now i have installed my copy of adobe elements 12 which includes not only editor but organiser too plus it includes adobe ACR so full RAW support..
wasnt sure how it would run and yup of course it doesnt exactly fly BUT it works and works well enough to organise my images and even do some editing.
fantastic!
and even better installed XBMC media stream.. added the simply player plugin and now i can watch streamed tv shows and movies too and all plays well.
so for £45 ive got a fully portable and working photo organiser and editor with 250 gb storage space and can watch whatever i want on it to boot!
So if your looking for a truely portable lightweight solution to your image storage if going away , ya cant go wrong with a netbook ( 10.1 " screen 1024 x 768 too )
and as long as you have 2gb ram in there your good to go.
Happy days!!
