just got the good lady a net book with an 8gb solid state harddrive......pre installed with windows 7 and i bought her MS office.....problem is it keepsrunning out off space on the hd....i know icould buy her a new hard drive but dont want to spend any more.....any body got any ideas!!!!? by the way she needs to be able to use word as all her work stuff is on it and her work pc is the same:bang:

Get some pen drives, Aldi have 8gb on offer for under £13.

You can also use them to boost speed on Win 7.

Have you tried doing a custom install and just installing Word?

I put a 16GB SD card in one of mine and installed most programs to that.

double check the programs and delete anything that is not necessary. Try uninstalling any of the MS office program that that would not be used

netbooks with that sort of disk space are only really designed for web browsing. i suspect that windows is using 5GB of your 8GB drive and office will be using about another 2GB approx. plus files thats going to be your issue.

if you want to start installing programs take it back and get one with a decent size disk. IMO of course.

What model of netbook is it? 8GB is a bit lame for any OS drive in my opinion. Try running something like Treesize Free to see where the space is being used up. Things like System Restore space can take up room too, I think it reserves a percentage of the disk space, so you could try and decrease it.
Some of the SSD may also have a hidden partition that the manufacturer has used for a recovery partition, so if anything happens, you can roll back to how it was when you first bought it. That could take up some space.
Other than that, I think wait until after warranty has expired and upgrade the disk inside if it will accept a laptop sata drive in place of the SSD.
Other option I can think of is to replace Windows with a netbook version of linux, like Ubuntu or something, but thats not something that is straightforward if not used to doing before.
