Anyone had one of these damn things? A couple of months ago I developed a stupid facial twitch and for the life of me I can’t stop doing it. As far as I know I don’t do it in my sleep but within a few minutes of waking up I’m at it again. I mentioned it to my doctor during a visit for something totally different and he gave me a short course of a mild muscle relaxant but it didn’t do a scrap of good.

I have got a family get together on Sunday and they are going to have a right laugh when I turn up doing a Jack Douglas impression. Pity that the doctor on this forum has been banned, I’ll bet he could have cured it.

I get them all the time, the ones in my face are much less frequent and are always around the cheekbone area, i find that if i press firmly on the area for a couple of minutes it disappears, the twitchy fingers i have no control over, bloody annoying but only happen in short bursts a few times a day

I get a twitch in my eye every now and then, I rub it like mad making it worse. But I have found putting something from the freezer does the trick ;)

I went through a phase where I had a very twitchy eye lid, it felt like I was overtly winking at everybody but in reality the movement could barely be seen. Not sure what brought it on, too much coffee, stress, not enough sleep probably, but it's gone now (famous last words!)

Up to now you fellas seem to have very mild muscular spasms. I wish mine was that small. After doing a bit of searching mine seems to be developing into more of a tourettes type of thing. My neck muscles are very sore at the end of the day. I think I really should be telling this to my doctor, but I feel a right "plonker", it's not as if I was some spotty teenager, I'm 64 for gods sake.

Eye twitches etc are sometimes caused by dehydration... I think a trip to the docs wont harm, thats if you can see them this year

I think you already know you should speak to your doctor about it;) as for feeling a plonker, I'm pretty certain your GP will gave come across many different ailments and situations that would put your symptoms in the shade. It may be something that can be easily sorted out so get it checked out:)

Looks like you are aren't the only one @Maggie52 :p

A twitch/tic uncontrolled muscular reaction could be caused by many things. Definitely see you doctor about it as a facial one is way too close to a possible artery/brain issue for my liking.

It would only be Tourette's if the voice box is also uncontrollable at the same time over a sustained period.

But hey, you are getting old :p :)

Get thee to a physician pronto.

I'm very lucky in the fact that my sister-in-law is the practice manager so can usually get to see the doc within an hour of phoning up. The only down side is that she can see all my medical records if she want's.

Lets just hope she never told her sister/your wife about that dose of clap you got last year then.

Or that thing that had to be removed after you "sat on it".

If she was really interested in reading your medical records then she would have probably done so already;) Don't let that stop you, make the appointment and get it over with.

Seeing that sketch above with Jack Douglas did make me laugh though. My husband had a very serious, motorcycle accident over 30yrs ago. He suffered multiple fractures and spent two years in hospital. When he eventually came home and began the process of trying to walk again, his legs used to suddenly give way. This always took him by surprise and as his legs gave way he used to shout aghhhh. I used to say he reminded me of Jack Douglas and used to tell him to try and do an impersonation of him at the same time. Jesus! What a cruel thing to do and I was a nurse too.
