ok so after getting my 50-500 os sigma i have been looking at camouflage coat covers etc as i am thinking of trying some birding/wild life stuff some time next year has any one got them on there lens or use them are they worth it?
this is the site that i am looking at

In a word - yes
In several more words they offer useful protection against small knocks and keep the lens warm to the touch, which is nice in cold weather.
As for the usefulness of camouflage, birds vary in how they see the world, some are known to see more towards the ultra violet and camo would probably have little effect on them. Covers do stop sun light reflecting off the barrel and in my case hide the rather obvious white casing.

Try wildlife watching supply's they do them there at a good price.

Have a look at camo tape on ebay. Most likely, not as good, but certainly cheaper.

cheers guys i think 1 could be on my xmass list then

+ 1 Better than Lenscoat IMHO. Have got them from these guys for all my lenses.

I will go the other way. Had 2 of the above on lenses and 2 of the lenscoat. The lenscoat is by far a better fit and doesnt slip as much on the lens. With the above ones i always found myself having to adjust them and move them back into place.

I've had an Outdoor one on a Sigma 120-300 and a Lens coat on a 600mm the Outdoor ones are double sided so you can reverse them but did keep sliping off of the lens mount end.
The Lenscoat ones are single sided and very grippy (a bit of a pain to put on) but once on it stays there.

I went for the outdoor photography one too for my 300 2.8
It was half the price of the lens coat one and although it moves about a little bit I think it's better as the neoprene is covered which means that in the long term if the rubber does perish you won't get little bits going into the lens
Not saying that it will perish though
