Hi all,

I will be taking my camera on holiday for a few weeks and will be needed a light neoprene cover to help protect my camera whilst out on day trips.
Between destinations and viewpoints it will be put into much rucksack (not a specialised camera rucksack).

I have a Nikon D5500 and will be mostly using a Nikon 16-85 lens. (bigger than the kit 18-55).

Not looking to spend heaps of money, but something that is practical and offers a bit of protection whilst in the bag is ideal. Obviously i will have a lens cap on and i can rotate the screen on the D5500 to face inwards to avoid scratches. So it just needs to protect the outside of the body and lens from light scuffs.
Ideally i would like to leave the lens on.

Thoughts?

Hi
I purchase a neoprene cover for a small laptop in poundland and I place my camera inside that and then inside a small backpack camera bag, the cover is big enough to fit the camera with or without the lens.
The only things that I am possibly going to do this year is purchase and ordinary backpack so that it is not obvious that I am carrying an expensive camera. Well worth it for the pouch at £1 in poundland.
I have small neoprene lens pouches for each lens and they are a must also, available from amazon.

regards.

Hi thanks for the tip.
Each of my Nikon lenses have the pouches that come with them, so that will offer some protection for those.

The rucksack is just a normal one, with a large main pocket and a smaller front pocket. all zipped.
I just need to place the camera inside it when walking through national parks to a viewpoint and when hoping in and out of vehicles to get to the destinations.
Its purely something cheap to protect from any scuffs and dirt inside the bag.
I will place a T-shirt in the bag to offer some extra protection and to stop the camera from rolling around too much.

Sometimes I wrap the camera in bubble wrap before it goes in the rucksack but most of the time it is just wrapped/surrounded in/by any spare clothing. However, unless I am sure the day is going to be dry I have a bivvy bag that goes inside the rucksack and everything goes in there. Perhaps I'm wrong but I assume no rucksack is waterproof and I'm not too confident in the rain cover of my rucksack in anything more than a light shower.

I will be in Asia and theres frequent thunderstorms, so thats a great shout.

just buy a drybag, and bung a spare t-shirt in with it for padding. alpkit does a few sizes at a not bad price. they are great to deal with as well
