Negative Scanning - unfamiliar size?

Afternoon all,

I've got an interesting question... I've come into possession of a large number of negatives from the 1940s - my wife's grandfather has a great many and I'm looking at getting them scanned into the computer to essentially preserve the images for future generations.

Thing is they're of a size I'm unfamiliar with - they are individual negatives that are approx 3 and a half inch by 2 and a quarter inch. He says they used to be processed by Kodak at the time so I'm guessing they're some sort of standard size just not sure which!

Dusting off my old Epson Perfection scanner which has an adapter for 35mm negatives and slides suggests I'd need something else to scan them in at home - I'm looking for a steer from anyone if they can help? I'm wondering if some of the more higher end Epson scanners would be suitable?

Sounds like a standard 6x9 image from 120 roll film. If so, the actual image size would be about 56mm x 85mm.

Which model of scanner do you have? If the light in the lod is wide enough, you could probably make a holder out of card.

Steve.

Thanks Steve, one question answered! :)

I'd need to check when I get home - but I think its the Perfection 3490 Photo...

EDIT - Taking a look at the current Epson line up and think the Perfection V600 would do the job, albeit one at a time.
