Yes
I'm running Windows 7...64 bit.

I cannot view NEF thumbnails in PSE9 but I can in Picasa 3, how come.

Nikon have not released, as far as I can find out, a NEF codec for Windows 64bit.

I believe you will need to download the update to Elements 9 in order for it to see RAW files created on the Nikon D7000 - Link

I believe I've sorted it.

My Windows 7 is 64 bit, Nikon only do a codec for 32 bit.

Would that be the answer?

I'm using the 64-bit version of Windows 7 and Elements 9 and can see RAW thumbnails in the Organiser but I'm using a D90. If I've understood your question correctly you want to use Elements 9 with a D7000: this camera came out after the initial release of Elements 9 so there is no support for it until you download the update from the link I gave above and then follow the instructions to install it.

Thanks Andy,

I have installed the latest update of Elements RAW 6.3.

This is the conclusion I have reached.

I have just updated to Windows 7...64 bit.
My old sytem used XP...32 bit, everything performed fine. PSE9 recognised the D7000, the D7000's 'picture controls' and also showed NEF thumbnails.

With Windows 7/64 bit PSE9 recognises the D7000 but does not recognise the D7000's 'picture controls' nor show NEF thumbnails.

Nikon do not do a NEF codec for 64 bit only 32 bit....this I think is where the problem lies.

Another confusing factor is that Picasa does show NEF thumbnails.

Nikon do not do a NEF codec for 64 bit.

If you, or anyone else can confirm this I much appreciate it.

The plot thickens.......What I have said above is a load of rubbish re 64/32 bit.
I have just installed ViewNX2 and it shows NEF thumbnails and also recognises 'picture controls'
The problem would now appear to be at PSE9's door.

Two different issues here.

NEF thumbnails not showing is caused by the lack of a 64 bit codec from Nikon. Some apps use the windows thumbnails and these use the codec, and some, like View NX2, generate their own thumbnails. There are 64 bit codecs available from 3rd party developers, but they are not free.

The camera profiles issue is probably due to the Adobe profiles (different from the Nikon view NX2 profiles) not being in the correct location.

On Windows 2000 / XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Support\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles

On Windows Vista / 7:

C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles
