hi guys just been out with my new d90 (for the first time) and used raw like allways and now there on my computer i cant open them and i dont know why, its shoing a small copy befor i open them but when i open them its coming up with file not supported in paint shop pro x2 and photoshop e7 and windows is saying that i might not have enough memory available

:help:

Yeah, I had the same thing when I upgraded my D80 to D90, you just have to bite the bullet and find a program that will see them. Aperture 2 and Lightroom do.

View NX is the bundled program that comes with the D90 software, open up the NEF RAW files in that, tweak and convert to jpeg. Could that work for you?

You beat me to it Defiance

Just checked my setup and i have Adobe Camera Raw 5.5 plug-in downloaded and NEF files open fine in Elements 7 - currently on my D300s but previously on my D90.

If memory serves me right RAW support only started in Photoshop CS. Version 7 does not support RAW, in any forms including DNG.

You can go to Lightroom which does, ( but that costs £200) or get a the current version of elements. ( £65).

It has always surprised me that whist Canon provide a passably good RAW converter in DPP free with their cameras , Nikon insist on charging you £150 for NX2. Personally I'd pay the extra £50 and get Lightroom

I think the OP is using Elements 7 unless I'm mistaken, but Nikon do bundle View NX which is a basic but okay RAW processor with the D90, not as good as Canon's DPP though :(

Download the free DNG converter from the Adobe site, convert your Nef's & then open in your normal software = job done

I stand corrected, but as a Canon user I wouldn't know that :)

Why not download the FREE programme from FastStone which will not only open them but also has the ability to edit them (with a little help from you).

Lots of other features available in the programme too.

Just a bit of information from their web site:

FastStone Image Viewer is a fast, stable, user-friendly image browser, converter and editor.
It has a nice array of features that include image viewing, management, comparison, red-eye removal, emailing, resizing,
cropping and color adjustments.
Its innovative but intuitive full-screen mode provides quick access to EXIF information, thumbnail browser and major functionalities via hidden toolbars that pop up when your mouse touches the four edges of the screen.
Other features include a high quality magnifier and a musical slideshow with 150+ transitional effects, as well as lossless JPEG transitions, drop shadow effects,
image annotation, scanner support, histogram and much more. It supports all major graphic formats (BMP, JPEG, JPEG 2000, animated GIF, PNG, PCX, TIFF, WMF, ICO and TGA) and popular digital camera RAW formats (CRW, CR2, NEF, PEF, RAF, MRW, ORF, SRF and DNG).

Direct download link is here

I use Picasa to view my photos and give slide shows, never had a problem with nef files

Try UFraw - free (in both senses) software:

http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/

(Download link second item down on left of page - versions for Linux, Mac and MS)

I use it routinely with NEF files. Very powerful (though it rewards a bit of investigating, as there are many optional settings).

Another vote for FastStone from me.
