Having just upgraded from a 60D to a 5DMKIII i now find i need to buy another piece of kit to allow me to fire my 580EXII using wireless.
I know i need some sort of trigger but have no idea what to look for.
I dont do a lot of flash photography, and only have the one flash with no intention of buying any more so dont want to spend a lot (£50 would be ideal). Its really just for home stuff, the kids playing etc.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to something that will work well with my set up.
This looks ok but i'd like something that transmits E-TTL if possible

Cheers.

Doesn't mention ETTL in there

Your best bet is either settle for manual triggers (no ETTL) or look to buy yourself a 2nd hand ST-E2 transmitter, but will require line of sight as it uses IR, otherwise look to pocket wizard type for ETTL.

The cheapest option would be manual control of your flash output with wireless triggers from the likes of Yongnuo.

I use an ST-E2 have recently bought the YN ST-E2 which also works a treat on the 580exII
much better I think that using manual triggers although a little more expensive.
but pretty reliable but it is line of sight. not 50-100m radio as you might get with a pocket wizard.

You want E-TTL radio triggers for under £50? You'll be lucky, until very recently those things cost hundreds but as it happens Yongnuo 622 triggers that have just become available and are getting rave reviews - about £80 I think. There's a long thread on them here somewhere.

Thanks guys.

As this is all very new to me anything with the word "manual" in it scares me, but i am willing to learn if i have to.
The Yongnuo ST-E2 does seem to be about the right price so ill look in to that a bit more first. Line of sight isn't really a problem as its only for home use.
i'm not sure i can afford a second hand Canon ST-E2 but ill keep an eye out for one of those as well.

I'd love a set of Picket Wizards but i think they are out of my budget, considering the amount of use it will get.

Im not sure i do want radio transmitters. Ive been very happy with using the 60D OB flash to trigger my 580, so im happy to keep with that type of system rather than have to use something in two sections.
I guess i can and will stretch to more than £50, thats was just a figure based on some cheap triggers i had seen, but wasn't really keen on them anyway
I'll check out the 622 thread.

Thanks for the heads up.

The Canon ST-E2 line of sight infra red thingie is awful especially outdoors where it works very erratically when the flashgun is more than about 5 yards away.

The Yongnuo YN-622C triggers are absolutely brilliant in comparison & well worth the £65.99 cost for a pair. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140844093562&ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:GB:3160

Perfect, thanks for the link. Just ordered a set.

Thanks again everyone. Im off to check out the large thread about these

Another vote for the Yongnuo YN-622C (I have four now), especialy as the Yongnuo ST-E2 apparently doesn't work on the 5D3

My set of YN-622 turned up last Thursday, sorry i should have updated this thread quicker.
I love them. Although i only have the one flash to trigger they work perfectly.
ive still to read the manual but ive not found any need to just yet, the defaults when i turn it all on seem to work fine.

Thanks again to those who recommended them, especially Richard.
