Hi Guys

i could do with creating a copyright watermark, nothing fussy just basic just a big C with maybe my name through it. now its needs to be a jpeg file and on a clear background so i can upload it to my smugmug website as a file which then gets auto added to my images when i download them to the site. I think this can be done in Photoshop but i only have Lightroom 3...

is there anywhere i can get a free download to create one or if anyone wants to knock one up for me then that would be great, happy to donate a few quid..

thanks

It will need to be a gif or png file, as far as I know jpegs have solid backgrounds (could be wrong though) ...

@Paul,

your correct mate. Gif or PNG (possibly some others) but JPEG will convert any transparent background into a white background when saved.

There are lots of tools online which will add "(c) XXXXX" across the image diagonally - embossing the image to create the words...

I used to use it a lot for website designs etc - sending pics to clients etc.

- i forget some of the tools i used, but i do know you can search many free archives of applications (cnet etc) just search "free image watermark" etc...

I've created one using Photoshop Elements 9, saved it as a png file and then applied it using watermarks in lightroom 4. It's quite an easy process to do. Just use text tool in PSE (hold alt and type 0169 for the copyright symbol) then type your name after it. I played around with the pixel size of the image to get the size I wanted.

Lightroom 4 makes it easy to move the position, change how opaque the watermark is and allows you to save different settings so you can apply different levels of opaque watermarks depending on how light or dark the photo you are applying it to is.

If you are a Lightroom user, why don't you do it all in Lightroom? That way all your images get the watermark embedded, not just on smugmug.

When you Export to Hard Drive as a JPEG, in the Export Dialogue, below Metadata, is Watermarking. Just type it in the watermark editor, it will also accept the Alt 0169 in there, plus your name or whatever you want. Lots of options on position, font, opacity, colour etc.

(This is in LR4.3, not sure about LR3, though)

Edit : Yes you can in LR3, here is a link explaining, it looks the same as LR4.3

That is a great article link, that's the way I do it with my own created png file.

This is not a bad little prog & once you make a sig or copyright or logo you just save it as png file.

thanks guys

yep i know to make one in LR etc but i cant watermark my images before they go on my site as i need to be able to sell the images as downloads without the watermark hence why it has to be a transparent one thats added after the image is uploaded to my site.

Paul above has kindly helped me out with this
