Hi everyone, I need a bit of advice..

I recently got a Nikon D700 and I need some advice on firmly fixing the front rubber grip (the one around the focus selector and FX badge). I know some good double sided adhesive tape will work, but it's a bit of a awkward shape..

Had anyone used normal contact adhesive to permanently stick these grips back on?

Some of this?

Why did I know this was a Nikon related thread

Anyway to answer you that's a big no no ,you can order new grips from China on e.bay that come with there own special double sided sticky film .thats ultra thin ,you have to be carefull what you use as any future repairs entail the removal of the grips . I might have some of the repair tape in my spares box if so I,ll get back to you later and you can have it foc.give me a few hours to look

I've always has my rubbers replaced at a Nikon service centre. Unless you know what you're doing I wouldn't recommend it and wouldn't recommend sticking it back down with any type of glue either.

I had a complete set replaced on my D3s twice, cost £120 all in.

It does get me that pro body rubbers expand!

Tbh it's extremely easy I had a d200 and a d300s that had both been used in Africa a lot and both needed all rubbers replaced ,it's about a hour per camera if you take your time ,but certainly not rocket science and sub £25 per camera .for the full kit .
And no I,m canon again these days

Hi Jeff, do you perhaps have a link where one could purchase the full kit?

Look on e.bay just search for " model " and grip rubbers

Just been through all my odds and Sod's boxes looking for the unusused adhesive and I must have thrown it away ,I will have a look in my workshop tomorrow though just in case ,it's a wafer thin double sided tape and sticks like s*** to a blanket ,as I said it's not a hard job ,,just a fine model makers scalpel and patience needed a small spoon or dental spatula helps with pressing into the sunken bits ,the camera looks like new when finished.
If ordering ask for extra adhesive as there's never enough .

I applied narrow (matt black) gaffer tape around the edges of the peeling grips on my D700. :D

Do you by any chance remember the brand of the adhesive you used? I'm thinking of getting some of the 3M 300LSE adhesive sheets..

Well, I tried some of the stickiest adhesive tape you can imagine and I'm quite impressed of the way these rubber grips will NOT stick to anything! The adhesive tape sticks to the camera body like there's no tomorrow, bu the grips just won't stick.. They should really use this rubber instead of Teflon!

Why did I never have this problem will canon bodies?

Anyway, I will most likely have to purchase a replacement grip kit.. or just through caution into the air and use the worlds strongest glue...

Fixed it by applying the double sided adhesive to the camera body and sticking the rubber grips to the adhesive with a few drops of super glue here and there.

Looks almost as good as new..
