Just been out to take some pictures of my car.

Only had my D60 since christmas so still trying to get used to all the settings etc. However on some of the pictures i have just taken, noticeable the darker ones there appears to be a green circle on the pictures. There is an example below:

All that has been done to that picture is a crop and the numberplate removed.

The pictures were shot in auto mode but with the flash disabled as the flash caused a horrible effect on the numberplate :) According to the data the above photo was taken as 1/30 sec and a f5.6. The lens is the standard kit lens 18-55 vr with a Uv filter on it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated:thumbs:

Thanks

Paul

Lensflare from headlight?

Lens flare from the car headlights? The colour of the flare is the same as the lens coating :>)

Ok, excuse my ignorance but what is lens flare, how is it caused and how can it be prevented please?

Cheers

Maybe try a few shots under similar conditions with and without the UV filter.

Not pointing your camera at high intensity light sources is a good starting point, but not always possible. Its caused by light bouncing around inside the lens and on the sensor and can be made worse by adding an extra layer of glass in the form of a filter. Sometimes its unavoidable, and can even be used artistically, especially when shooting into the sun.

Yeah i work in the world of cars and that green dot looks the same as the siver internals as your headlamp and the same size looking at your picture.

How about trying just your sidelight on instead of dipped beam not sure if it will work but the light will not be as bright.

Fantastic, cheers for all your advice, will know not to have the headlights on next time! lol

lens flare...basically, an issue related to unwanted light entering the lens and bouncing around inside, hence the use of hoods and pointing directly at very bright light sources.
