Basically there is a paranormal investigation going on and i was asked to take photo's of the team using ouji boards and or just walking about the building. Thing is i know i'll need to use flash , but what sort of settings/shutter speeds would be best?

There will be no light

I agree, on auto & let the camera do it all, with the Canon body you can do this assuming a canon speedlight flash. gud luk & dont get too frightened.

Left it a bit late to ask the question

Answer does depend on the kit we are talking about. Focusing can be a problem. A modern flashgun will put out red stripes to allow autofocus before the flash. On board flash will just pulse out light to help focus and annoy everyone.

As you have no time Auto may be your best bet.
Personally I'd just set the camera on manual f8 and 1/200th and let the flash work out how much light to make. With on board flash I'd use manual focus too - preset to about the right distance in the light as the focus strobing gives people time to turn and stare at you or shut their eyes.

Well i left it late because i just found out late *SOB*

Anyhoo , Canon Rebel Digital XTI EOS 400D!... Standard lens for this jobby , wouldn't use the sigma zoom lens or i'd be doing face spot checks :D
