Asking in here as its for sports use which is different to normal use...

Juts had a card failure so its gone in bin.. (failed twice so unreliable)

I currently have sandisk only with a mixture of extreme and ultra... two 16gb and one 32gb (plus some 8 and 4 for backups)

I need 4 large cards minimum 16gb so I need at least one more..(this is for two cameras shooting to two cf cards at same time) but no point buying a fast card when one of the others will slow it down.. so was looking at 2 new 16gb cards.. any thoughts on these ? or other eccomendations.. the sandisk at 30 and 60 mb/s have been fast enough for me...

Tony I thought it was only on the 1D4 where having an SD card in slowed it down. Or is it still slower having 2 x CFs in the 1Dx as it's writing to both cards?

if you have two cf cards and your writing to them both at the same time.. logic would predict that it writes at the slowest speed...

If I am wrong.. then theres still no advantage in a faster card as the camera still has to save one at slower speed..

But I dont think my logic is flawed? :)

Generally they* ask for a photo of the card + serial number to check that is legit then a new one arrives in the post.

really? I didn't know that.. just contact sandisk.. presume they want the old one back.. othewise anyone can do it and get extra cards ?

well.. hardly a day goes by.. always learning stuff :) THANKS!

I was thinking if both cards are the same speed would it slow down due to writing to both at the same time as it is pushing twice the data.

Logic says yes but I will email Canon when I remember.

No.. the camera has enough power to push at just about any speed.. its the cards that slow it down... the camera is powerfull enough to save two 60m/s files at the same time without loss of speed.. but if one card is 30m/s then it will only save at that as its the slower... if it saves one at 60 and one at 30 then as i say still no advantage as the camera has to go slower..

if the camera is powerfull enough to save at 120m/s or 240? 480? then it can save two files simmiltaneous without slowing..

according to my logic missus spok? :)

So as long as you don't fill the buffer then having a relatively slow card doesn't matter I guess.

as i say.. even 30m/s has been ok.. i think if shooting iso 12800 and get a massive celebration needing lots of shots.. end of penalty shootout for example at night match.. then maybe struggle.. but 9/10 they work no problem..

really tempted with the ones i posted... faster than the ones i have :)

Oo that's useful information. I have a card that failed. I haven't yet thrown it away. Just stuck it in a draw with a cross on it. Thanks

Tony, i use either 8GB 800x or 16GB 1000x Lexars which equates to 90mb and 120mb sec cards, brilliant, never a single issue with them

twice as expensive as sandisk.. 99 quid for a 16gb ?

EDIT 55 quid I can find for 16gb .. still a bit steep ..

Depends on the manufacturer and the support staff you get, i believe Sandisk require the cards back as the norm. Some support will just send the replacement once they confirm it is legit and tell you to put the duff one in the bin. I don't think it's the norm as such otherwise it'd be rife for abuse but i've seen it a number of times on various forums / blogs so i assume its always worth trying.

same price as sandisk then... 34 quid...ish

Another vote from my memory from me, always used them for memory (apart from the few I bought from someone on here)

For a professional i can't see the logic in saving a few quid here or there on memory cards when many 1000's is likely to have been spent on the rest of the kit and the memory card ultimately holds what is valuable to the job.

I have always used sandisk .. if someone came up wiht equivelant cheaper or better more expensive then yes... but same type of card (equivelant) but more expensive.. whats the point in wasting money ?

I could probbaly get some real cheap 16gb cards for a tenner eeach somewhere.. then I would agrre with your comment... but no..
