Need more storage!

Hi all

Thought I'd give it a go here. My laptop is running out of in-built storage and I am looking at what the best way would be to get a load more. I don't want to have to plug anything into my laptop in order to read files that I have saved, so this, I'm assuming, steers me towards wireless storage. So my questions...

How would I go about doing this?

I'm assuming all I will need is a wireless internet router with storage connection and a hard drive to plug onto it?

Would this set up be plug and play, or would I need to download all sorts of drivers to get it to work?

I am open to suggestions on other not stupidly expensive solutions though, where I don't have to sit here with a hard drive connected to my laptop all the time.

Many thanks all :)

You could look at NAS (Network Attached Storage). This would connect via cable to you wireless router and allow you extra storage.

Depending on your laptop hard drive you could also look to upgrade this to a bigger drive.

These are good suggestions. Have a look at how you will set up network storage, if it would be possible without much additional expense, and the speeds and performance you can expect from the router. Be sure to use any supplied backup or network drive software rather than just windows' native tools.

Also: If you do, in the worst case scenario, opt for a non-networked Ex-HD, make sure you get a USB Powered one, not mains, especially with a laptop, the faffing about required means I hardly use mine, and don't back up nearly enough, defeating the purpose of choosing this model (cost)

Thanks both for the replies. Think I'm going to go for a portable HDD... As nice as a wireless solution might be, it's probably going to be expensive and beyond my abilities to secure

Have seen a nice Hitatchi one, which is very small.

Thanks again.
