Need more firewire

I need more FireWire hubs for my MacBook pro 13"

Are you sure that you need a hub? It's pretty rare that people do.

How many FireWire devices are you tying to attach to your MBP? You can daisy-chain up to 63 of them together.

If you really need more than that and you have an MBP with Thunderbolt and need an additional FireWire bus, it's probably cheaper to get a Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter.

I had a couple of FW800 drives which all had pass throughs. Do you really need them all at the same time.

Yeah one is my audio interface, one is my TC powercore, one a compressor and I have a few other things.

What is a pass through?

It's a 2nd FW socket on the device do you can plug that device into another one. There are FW hubs available but they are just not cheap. Shame you don't have a 17" as they have several FW ports and you can plug a cardbus FW interface in too. How many FW ports do you actually have and how many in total do you need at one time.

I have one on the 13" MBP and I could get away with just 3 plugged in at a time then I can swap one for another as and when I need it.

Yes, you plug your FW400 port into the hub and then you can connect several devices to the hub and use all at the same time.

Does the MBP have a FW400 port, thought they only had FW800's?
You can buy a FW400 to 800 cable if needed

I had the 17", they have both. If he is connecting one thing at the moment then he must have "computer to FW400" so just needs one FW400 to FW400 for each device. If he does have both a FW400 & FW800 then he could connect one device via a lead.
