I have been asked to photograph 2 elderly ladies (sisters) with 1 of them suffering when a terminal illness - although her family says she appears well at the moment.

I have been trying to come up with a tasteful pose for these ladies - shoot tomorrow. I would like to keep it modern with the white background, but not sure what pose would work. Any ideas guys?

Thanks Gillian

I would go for one sitting with the other stood slightly behind but to the side, hand on shoulder - think its a fairly classic pose

Hi Gillian
First of all I would say, forget the white background. Think about putting the ladies somewhere interesting and appropriate. Maybe they enjoy flowers, so how about putting them in a garden, or conservatory, or sitting by french windows. Perhaps they love cats, books, knitting or sharing a jigsaw puzzle. Once you have got a good environment for them, you can start to think about their positioning and your framing and lighting. By giving them a situation that they are comfortable in, they can then interact naturally with each other and you. For example, is they love cats then get them to reminisce about previous pets, like their first cat, or the naughtiest or prettiest etc. They could be looking at photos of their previous cats or stroking the current moggy. The photos or cat do not necessarily have to be ‘in shot’, it’s up to you. Keep ‘em in if they add to the shot, or frame ‘em out if they don’t. If you want the ladies looking at the camera for the picture, then let them chat away while you sort yourself out and when you’re absolutely ready, just ask them to look to camera and away you go. I hope this has given you food for thought.

Have a fun time and get some great shots. Good luck.

Thanks Stevie F8 and Sam-D - You have certainly given me something to think about.

I realise the shoot is tomorrow, however i thought i would share this... i know this old lady, she's a friend of my grans. I just see her round the village , at church..with the blind group etc but tonight i brought her back from a brass band concert ,had a 15min glass of wine and got chatting and she CAN JIVE!! She's fab at it. She loves her gardening and red wine.. just a few minutes to get the personality and a picture that will mean so much to her family

Thanks for your comment. The shoot went great. They were very bubbly and I hope I captured their personality. Thanks.

Damn, I missed this, I had a great idea involving some pantyhose, a big knife, some gaffer tape and tomato ketchup.

Ach well, maybe next time eh....

Mike.
