I've just bought an Olmec OP1000, trying to set it up. But I'm getting 'Printer driver: File error' message when I try to print.

I've definitely installed the latest Vista driver
The image size is within the 2740x1800 size for a 6x9 print
It is CMYK (tried RGB also)
I've tried it on another computer
I've tried talking to Photomart technical support

I'm thinking it might be something to do with the ports?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Very urgent!!! :bang:

Did you download the driver or install from CD.

It may be corrupt so try downloading again.

completely uninstall drivers/software and check all files deleted from within install location.

Reboot

Install drivers before plugging in printer.

I am getting exactly the same with my new OP1000.

Windows Vista - I have installed the Vista driver and every time I try and print I get a Driver: Flie Error message.

I have tried everything:
Downloading the driver agin.
Uninstalling the priner
Reinstalling the priner
Even choosing a restore point from yesterday and then installing the printer from scratch.

Nothing works!

HELP ME PLEASE!

I have just found this, when I was searching on Google for something else. I am quite obviously concerned. The first thing I have to ask here is - have you contacted us at Photomart?

If you haven't please do straight away.

Thanks

I am wondering if this is coming up in invisible ink each time I respond?:shake:

If you are having issues, then please let me know, call me , email me- mark@photomart.co.uk

There is a contract engineer for the OP1000, it is ACL and their number is 0870 990 9287.

Have any of you guys got a 64 bit machine?

OK guys, I am doing my best here on this.

I have been in contact with ICI and they have proffered this information-

"The problem itself we are aware of, it is very specific (only 5 issues so far) and tends to relate to one brand of PC, the issue is not the driver nor the printer but the PC relationship between the two. Shinko have been informed and are working on a solution, unfortunately without the PC this makes this very difficult to solve. "

I recently took delivery of an Olmec OP1000 and thought it would be useful to pass on my “learning experience” which may save a few others from tearing their hair out the way I did.
First of all, I must say that the OP1000 is a brilliant machine. Compared to my superannuated Mitsubishi 8000 it is lightening fast and produces flatter prints, quite important in some circumstances. To be fair to the Mitsubishi, the picture quality is no better, but nevertheless, excellent.

Here are two problems I had (both of which could have been avoided had I read the manual properly, but how many men do that?)

1. If the printer is plugged into a different USB port from the previous one your computer will detect it as a new printer and you’ll not be able to use it without reinstalling the drivers. I did this, deleted the old printer, and it didn’t work. Many hours, and many delete, reinstalls later, I discovered that, to fully delete the printer you must, in addition to deleting it in “Control Panel” “Printers” you need also delete the driver by going to File, Server Properties, clicking the “Drivers” tab and removing the Olmec Driver. It then reinstalls perfectly. Incidentally, the manual says don’t install on a USB hub but I can’t avoid this. It works fine PROVIDED the hub is always plugged into the same USB port on your computer / laptop and the printer is plugged into the same port on the hub, it’s that critical.

2. I’ve seen some comments on various forums about a yellow cast on the prints. I had this too until I realised that the printer comes without the ICC profile enabled. Just go to “Printing Preferences” “Color Adjustment” and tick the “Color Matching” box on the left and you’ll see a world of difference.
Don’t be put off by any negative comments you’ve read elsewhere. The OP1000 is a brilliant printer and superb value for money and I'll be happy to discuss this and pass on what little knowledge I have to anyone who is interested.

Thanks guys for the help.I had read the manual and no other USB devices connected, tried re installing on all USB ports, tried using several different programs to print from, even tried using different cameras files in case that was it. Nope. I'm guessing as Mark says it is a vista/ problem with my PC.
I would like to echo what has been said too. The Olmec is a fantastic printer!! I have it set up currently on my old XP machine and it is cranking out some fabulous super quality super fast prints. Trouble is that laptop is old and slow and only got 40gb hard drive!!

For info my Vista laptop is a compaq C555em. Might help if that nails down the problem.

It may be of interest to you guys , but the ICI technical rep has actually appeared on another forum and is answering questions and issues. This is a rare thing indeed, so if you want to know more I suggest you go an have a lookat the forum on www.eventphotographersociety.co.uk

Thanks cameraangles for the tip about colour matching, that has saved me hours of profiling and colour adjustments, the print now matches my screen, thanks. I have a big job in London tomorrow this will really help me out.

Did you have any luck in solving your problem as I have just purchased an Olmec Op1000 and having the same problem with Vista i.e. "Printer driver: nFile error" when I print?

I am thinking of purchasing one of these fine printers, but have just read that ICI have stopped the whole printers division, is this going to be an "end of line" printer ?
also the Vista issue worries me too..
But if anyone knows where I can get one cheap.. I might bite...

they're good printers but we only use ours with xp at the moment, off the top of my head i'd see if you could use any of the "run in compatibility mode" on any of the apps/drivers etc :)

Olmec op900 for under £500 + vat !! IS this a bargin or am I missing something ?

Olmec op900 for under £500 + vat !! IS this a bargin or am I missing something ?

apols to resurrect an old thread - but where did you see this price and is it still available?

The Olmec OP1000 is a great printer....WHEN it works.

I upgraded from a Mits, and I have had a lot of problems with getting it to work. All the companies involved just want to blame each other. Excuse so far are , wrong media, wrong driver, wrong converter, wrong make of PC, wrong OS, IMO it is just a wrong machine.

I sold my printer on ebay, made a £250 loss. Went back to a mits. Plugged everything in, worked straight away, not one issue.

May be of interest - have not been able to track down 64 bit drivers BUT
if you use Express Digital Darkroom v8.91 on 64bit system and use their version of driver NOT windows ALL WORKS OK - just had to tweak gamma on output.

Have seen drivers for olmec op900 which can be found at systeminsight.
