Need help with DVD volume and sound clarity.

Ok first i am going a bit deaf.

If i watch a broadcast film on my Samsung TV i need the volume at about 50%,at that i can hear it and understand it,if i watch a DVD film i need to put it to 100% and sometimes i still cant understand every thing that is said.

I cant find any where to change the sound settings on my DVD player but obviously i have settings on my TV,are there any settings i should change on my TV to get a clearer sound because of the way its recorded on DVDs.

Just add if its normal TV programming like Last of the summer wine then 20/25% volume is enough.

Might be worth investing in a soundbar, doesn't have to be the latest greatest one. A £39 Hitachi affair from Argos will suffice where it has digital IR and AUX inputs as well as Bluetooth for hooking up to mobile devices if it needs be. I'm hard of hearing (was born partially deaf) and do appreciate that bit of bass boost that comes with a soundbar, but I also have subtitles/closed captions turned on all the time anyway, be it a TV programme or a DVD/Blu ray films.
 
Sounds like an issue between your TV and dvd more than anything.

Check what audio your dvd is outputting, it its putting out 5.1 to a TV only cable of playing 2.0 then the mix will be off and you probably won't be getting all of the sound.
 
Have you tried adjusting the tv to 'clear voice'?

It's in the 'sound' menu under 'mode'.

The best solution is to be able to boost the 'centre' channel only, to increase speech volume, but you'll need something to support 5.1

personally i love being hard of hearing (hate my hearing aids ) as i can make up my own versions of conversations ,it drives the kids round the twist WHAT !!!!!!
 
i have exactly the same issue even the wife is saying the same.
mumbled voices and bad dialoge.
we have a new yamaha AV amp and the last amp was the same
i have even replaced the centre speaker with a new monitor audio one and have the centre speaker turned up quite a lot to make it reasonable.
