Need help with choosing a lens

hi guys ive been an active reader of this forum for some time now and have found it to be most helpful, i have a nikon d80 and the stock 18 - 135mm lens kit but im looking to expand on my glass as christmas is coming up what would you suggest for a portrait lens as i like taking pics of mates usually shoulders up

any help will be greatfull

as is allways said get the "nifty fifty" cheap and sharp and on the D80 it will act as a 75mm, ideal for portraits.

which 1 lol sorry to sound like a noob but i am when it comes to lens's as this will be my first ever upgrade glass wise

there's only 1 nifty fifty ( as far as i know ) & i'ts a nikon 50mm f1.8 d ,cost approx £ 80.

and they are a fantastic lens ,it feels cheap & plasticky but the image qaulity is superb & depth of field can be very shallow @ f1.8.
