Hiya.

Im doing a wedding soon and Ive com up with an idea for a creative.
I want to take a shot of the groom with the bride kissing his left cheek, the bride kissing his right cheek, the bride distracted by admiring her engagement ring and finally the bride looking strraight at the camera (so 4 of the same people in different poses and only 1 groom). I know its possible using layers etc but I dont really know how to perfect it. Is there a thread on here with a tutorial?

Cheers
Andy

If it's something untried that you need to learn, then don't FFS do it on a wedding-shoot...lol

If your PS skills aren't very, very good it'll look shi'ite - I'm pretty good at what I do know in PS (though as with everthing PS there's a vast amount I don't know), but I wouldn't attempt what you've described here on a job until I'd put in a lot of practice getting it to look seamless and perfect.

its exectly for that reason I want a tutorial to learn from.

Ive done it before but it was using ps3, was a long time ago and I cant remember how I did it. It was a picture of my living room with 5 of me in it.

I wouldnt go to a wedding, set up a shot , take it and then hope I could edit it afterwards!! "FFS".

Can't see any problem personally in taking the shots for this at the wedding ... if they don't work out in PP then it just does not get used - only the OP's time (and 10 mins at the wedding) is wasted?

Pretty sure the image blending is pretty simple though - there was a tutorial in Digital Photo mag for something like this a few months back as I recall.

lol...OK, fair enough...

PS3...?
Blimey, the one with the CD carved in stone?

No it's on floppy discs... about 150 of them :D

It's actually not "that" hard to do... The most difficult bit will be getting the groom to stay still... Then you can just erase the bits of the layers that you don't want - in theory...

I'd do a couple of practices before setting it up at the wedding though!

Doing multiple images of yourself in a sitting room setting is easy, because the furniture doesn't move between shots as you reposition yourself.

The problem of trying to translate that sort of shot to the situation you are describing is that you are going to need the groom to be perfectly still for at least two of the shots (his bride kissing his cheeks) otherwise the shots won't register correctly.

If the groom does move between shots, your Photoshopping skills will need to move up a level to get the image you are looking for.

I did this:

A while (2 years or so :p) back, so I'd say it was definately possible... I'm going to have a try at the weekend, see what happens... If I get chance, that is! :D

Personally I would set it up on a tripod, take a background shot, and then take all the separate ones with the bride / groom in (still on tripod). Use manual mode so all the exposures are in relation to each other too, makes the blending easier. After that just put the background pic in on photoshop, put all the other ones in layers on top, and mask them :) Probably doesn't make an awful lot of sense, I'm crap at explaining.

Makes sense to me. You've got a background which doesn't move and you simply use layer masks to bring the images into position on the background layer. It's all down to logistics, getting the bride and groom in the right position.

I'd be inclined to draw it out first to see how things need to need aligned. It's not as easy as it seems. You need to ensure the bride is in the correct position for the comp.

Might want to use one image of the Bride kissing the Groom as the key shot and then add the others too it. If all else fails you've got a good Bride + Groom shot.

Personally I would practice before the day though
