need help with a music themed project!

Hi all!

its been a while since i last posted on here but i have been a busy bee!

I need some help guys, im 2 months in to a pro photography course and im loving it! my class have been tasked to complete a photo essay (10 images) by end of september and it can be on any subject we wont, so ive chosen music.

Ive got a few ideas for my images but its locating the places/props/models etc thats gonna be most difficult!!!
I was hoping i could tap into the vast wealth of knowledge on here and ask some advice.

my ideas include a tribal drummer with paint splashing all over the place (messy but fun!!!), a smoky jazz bar/dimly lit stage scene, someone playing a grand piano....and thats about all ive came up with so far!

If anyone has any hints/tips id be most appreciative!!!!

Blueman group use paint on drums but dont allow photos during shows.

go to some gigs and get talking to people!

You could try talking to a local music shop, the owners and workers are usually fairly well connected with musicians and might be able to help. They might let you put up a notice for volunteer models/musicians as well.

How about approaching the music dept at your college and bounce some ideas around with the other students?
