Need help with a com port for a mac

you mean a serial port?

as in your mac doesnt have one and you need one for your printer?

you can get USB->Serial adapters (not even sure if theyre mac compatible) but personally i wouldnt even bother, thats got world of pain written all over it.
 
yes it has usb but its a label printer not a normal printer so needs both usb and the comsms port to be able to print wont with out the other

tried a usb version didnt work on my pc tried everythign to make it work will try on the mac to see if it works

neil i was told it was a coms port 9 pin so im going of what i have been told

its a citezen cl-s521 printer

Just had a look at the printer. It needs an RS232 connection which is the serial port connection as Neil suggested.

looking at the driver spec there is nothing for Mac listed. You can get a USB to serial cable but you may also need some software to modify the commands to be compatible with a serial device. As far as I am aware there is nothing like that for a current OSX Mac. Also having done this with a PC some years ago it can be very hit and miss (More miss than hit :) )

Are you sure it needs both an RS232 and a USB. A quick read f the manual gives me the impression that it is either, not both. although I can see why you may think to the contrary

Does your model have the LAN card option. That might be a better approach.
 
Yup.. looks to be either USB OR RS232. Bigger issue IMHO is driving the printer from the Mac - no drivers unless you can do something with the Linux CUPS driver....
 
What software are you using to print? We have a similar printer at work and the label printing software comes with its own printer drivers. And it is USB or Serial you dont need both :-)
 
right so one thing looks like is i will have use windows 7 with parrelles which i was meaning to use any way

as for the usb never been able to use it with out the other so unless im missing something i dont know why
