Hello All, just got a bunch of extra stuff coming with a Yashica Electro 35 camera that I bought on Ebay, I'm not able to identify one of the objects, it looks like a lens hood but it is too short/small for that:

On the end without screw fits a 54mm lens cap perfectly, but the screw is 53mm measured with a rule, I've tried to screw it on a 52mm filter just as a test and - obviously :wacky: - does not fit.

Any idea what is it and for which camera/lens?

Thanks! (y)

Well for say a 19mm lens it's about right for a hood....h'mm but it should be black.

53mm screw to 57mm slip-on filter adaptor?

It's probably not for an Electro 35, as that has a 55mm female thread on the lens.

Thank you all for your propmt response!

I thought the same thing, a lens hood but does not look like it. Maybe hoods where that way for some Yahsica cameras back in the 50s/60s, you know, like full chrome-plated metal bodies and accesories.

Hi ariel, have you tried looking at the photos from the advert on ebay to see if it is shown maybe attached to something?

I've searched over internet in general, this accesory does not belong to the Electro 35 camera, I think the selled added some random stuff he was having around. Also tried to contact the seller but he does not know either.

53mm screw to 57mm slip-on filter adaptor?

The external diameter of the ring is 54mm, so does not make much sense a step-up adaptor from 53mm to 54mm, but it could be as you said.

Nope, it is not for the Electro 35, all the rangefinder and lenses I have are 52mm or 55mm, even have a lens cap for 54mm, and so far I'm not aware of any Yashica camera/lens using 53mm screw.

54mm push-on filter then, Voigtlaender made them in that size.

Series 7 filters and adaptors

50.8mm with a 54.346mm 36 threads per inch thread pitch. It is only really 'oddball' in millimeters, Series 7 lenses are exactly two inches. You will also need to buy a retaining ring to use with the adaptor, if the one for the lens/filter is missing..

Maybe?

I'm not much into the Series system, but if the Series 7 lenses are exactly 2 inches (50.8mm) and use an adapter ring to step-up to 54.346mm, then where this ring I have will fit with a 53mm screw?... or am I understanding it wrong?

Checking over internet I see some 52mm to Series 7 adapters, even some with odd measures like 53.9mm to Series 7, but nothing in 53mm (major diameter, I do not have a caliper to measure the minor diameter).
