Need help restoring this old photo

Hi guys
I need to get this image restored to a reasonable standard, as its for my partners grandads birthday invite s that were making, ive tried myself but im just not happy with the end result, is there any of you guys on here that could have a quick edit at it for me and show me your end result.

You did your own retouching, there were not enough clues how to do the nose in the original.
I thought of lightening the background and changing the contrast and sharpening... only a few clicks... but like restoring antiques, I prefer to change as little as possible. simply clean and repair.

Sorry I didn't annotate the pic. Was just a quick edit whilst I was waiting to go out. Still, I'm not sure what you're getting at Terry..

Not getting at you or anything, Yours is an interesting take on the problem, and just as valid as mine. When some of the important features are obliterated by damage one just has to make a guess.

The other version on offer, was just my retouched verson lightened and brightened. which makes it more like a sketch than a photograph.
