hi
im after buying a computer but building one myself
i did it before but for gaming
i need help with parts and whats best

ill buy some new some secondhand

thank you for any help

First thing you need to do is tell everyone what you want to spend and if you have a preference for processor type etc.

around £400 withous OS
need for CS6 and other editing so quiet quick
ive not looked into proccesors as they have changed alot from when i built my other system
will just need cheap case but big enough to fit every thing in

I now have a computer but need to upgrade
I was told Intel i3 are good processors but what are people's thoughts
Should I get i3 or i5 i7
I would need the mother board to go with it and one that takes lots of ram

i5 with appropriate motherboard. Don't skimp on power supply. Add a 120+GB SSD if you can afford it.

I've got a new one from Chillblast.com, i love the way you can customise any of their systems online with the click of a mouse, also gives you a price as you do it so you know what you are spending.

oh i just read you are building it, sorry read that wrong lol

Is a 120gbp ssd good enough or just used for programs to be installed to

I might buy the bits ever month to spread the cost

It's my old computer so not bad but not great

What's the best size ram to get is more always better

The 120G will bewcome 110 when formatted, a reasonably small Windows install will be about 30G, a less well managed one up to 60+. You'll need another drive.

Depends what you're putting on it, I ran for years on a 60gb ssd (file storage on a separate drive)

This is just the setup i'm using, for another 30 quid i wished i had gone for the 120 SSD for a little more future proofing.

I have 1tb at the moment
It would have:
-win 7
-CS6
-premier elements 10
-Photoshop elements 10

Think that's all

What else should be on there for best speeed

A 120G SSD will be faster than a 60G SSD as it uses 2 "channels" of flash at once. Go 120G.

If you can afford a i5-xxxxK processor and a board that allows overclocking, you've got an extra 15% speed for £30 or so, but make sure you have a good PSU and cooler (which will probably cost £50 extra themselves).

Just won't tell wife of costs
Would i7 be over the top

Save yourself a few quid and don't go i7. The i5-2500K is a sensible price, it overclocks easily and is probably all you need.

Yes (and I have 2 x i7 machines here)

Got one going spare ;-)

I'll look into the i5 then

Should I avoid the i3 all together

I'll make my money stretch to that
Need to find a full size case and start from there

Where should I start to look for parts and should I buy the cpu now or get a bundle so cpu and motherboard
Still can't find a decent full size case for cheap

Wow getting so rather high quotes for just a tower with every thing included so i5 and mobo

Try scan.co.UK for parts. Normally reasonably competative. Although they can be expensive on postage for cases.

Have a look at overclockers.co.uk, ebuyer.com and Scan.co.uk

Overclockers does some great quality bare bones and full builds at reasonable prices so worth having a look.

Also there are some big brand outlet stores on eBay such as dabs.

Between them you should find a few deals.

I'd say its worth the i5 in the long run. Also an SSD at the moment is great value and worth every penny imo. 8 gig ram is a must.

Other advice make sure you buy some fans in addition to the case.

As soon as my case and fans arrive (hopefully Monday) I'm going to do a photo-by-photo session of putting my first home build together if it helps. I started off with the processor and the socket type then chose the motherboard from there, opting to go for full ATX. I've been browsing through the motherboard manual tonight and it's very well written and easy to follow. It's an MSI one.

Trying to get second had on eBay but if that fails SanDisk do 120gb for £69 so will get one soon
There's a second hand pc near me with all the parts I need so hope I win it and saves me buying all the parts separately

Got an ssd for £46.50
Just need the rest of a computer now

Sorry
EBay bargain really
It's a SanDisk one not top of the range but will use it for all my photo editing programs
Need one more just for win7
