Just bought my first ever 35mm camera (), and am taking it off for a backpacking jaunt round Central America for the next 6 weeks.

Was wondering if anyone knew of any good places in London to pick up cheap film? I went into a Snappy Snaps earlier and saw a 3 pack of Fujifilm 200 (36 shot) going at 15 pounds which seemed pretty extortionate to me. Anyone know of any good places to look?

Furthermore, I shot a roll today (kindly given to me for free), and need to ideally get it developed in one day tomorrow. I doubt the film was good quality, but need to see how i'm doing! Wheres the best (read cheapest) place to get them put onto a CD? Again Snappy snaps seemed to say around a fiver for the pics and another 2.99 on top of that. I'm only a student on a gap year....:gag:

One of my friends rates the old stock kodak that you can get in poundland pretty highly :)

You'd probably be able to get it cheapest in Central America!

supermarket

For processing get yourself off to your nearest Tesco, Asda supermarket. Cheap deveoping and they'll usually do a CD copy for not much more. As you're in London get yourself down to http://www.silverprint.co.uk/ good prices on most film and they normally have a bargain box with short-dated/outdated film for not too many pennies. Or, if you still have time before you go good prices to be had from 7dayshop but delivery can be a little hit and miss, sometimes quick sometimes not so quick.

Cheapest is going to be online. May not suit depending on when you need it by. 7dayshop.com do great deals on both fuji and kodak rolls. See here: http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/default.php?cat=1&type=1190&man=0&filterwords=&go=SEARCH&comp=. Just make sure you don't buy the 120 rolls by mistake .

In regards to scan, jessops are cheaper than snappy snaps, but it takes longer. They charge £4 for develop only and £2 per CD. So if you can get them to put multiple rolls on the same CD you can work a pretty good deal.

Another great place if you're willing to travel to Brixton is Photofusion. 4 quid a roll too (dev only) and probably faster than Jessops (never used them but heard about them being good). They are right beside the station too.

Not sure if offer still on but Boots were doing a bag of 5 rolls of fuji film for 7.99 last week.

Great great geat spot! Just picked some up from my local shop. It's 200 speed, not Superia, but i think probably a better shot than another cheap deals.

What would you guys reccomend as regards to taking the film on flights? As far as I understand you shouldn't put it in your hold luggage, but take it in hand luggage, and then ask them not to scan it?!

Scanning film has no effect on it, you're safe whichever way you choose to carry it.
