Chaps,

I'm looking for a bag/case for my Nikon D300, grip, lenses, Sb-800 flash, filters, probably a few bits and bobs like spare memory cards, batteries, lens cloth/rocket blower etc.

However, I want something that either doesn't look like a camera bag or is small enough to fit inside another rucksac.

I have been looking at the Tamrac Adventure 7 Rucksac which seems like a good bag especially as it allows a tripod to be strapped on to it as well as a separate top compartment. Problem is, it does seem a little small and I'm not sure if it will take all my gear.

I had a look at the lowepro slingshot bag but it really isn't to my taste and it does look like a camera bag which I don't want.

Cheers

you'll need to be specific about what lenses you're wanting to carry

i fit a d300 with 28-70 attached, 18-200, sb 600, 70-200 with hoods and batteries cables and such in the bottom compartment and occassionally i throw in a 50mm and thats about it's limit however if you add the top compartment which is generally for accessories i can also fit another camera with grip in and other lenses and such as well as the laptop which goes in the back compartment

generally i think it's a pretty good bag as it carrys enough without being obviously a camera bag or being oversized.

personally i find tamrac a stronger bag than the lowepros and they also do the other adventure series 9 etc :)

I currently only have a 18-200 and a 18-55 lens but I am looking at getting 3 other lenses: 70-300, 50 prime and 10-20. I won't be carrying all the lenses with me all the time. I think most of the time it will be 10-20 with the 70-300 or 18-200.

Do you have the adventure 6 or 7? I heard the 7 is a bit bigger than the 6?

oh yeah looking them up i think i've got the adventure 9 cost me £60 from hilton photographic and i find it muchly useful, dunno if you'd fit a 70-300 in there though

I've got the adventure 9 & it will fit the D300 with the 70-300mm but its tight - i'm going to upgrade mine to a Tamrac EXPEDTION 9 sometime soon.

LowePro MiniTrekker - all the stuff in my sig, plus filters, memory cards etc etc...

(this is garbage text just so my sig shows up!!!)

I must say, whilst I was out today I popped into Jessops quickly to look at a bigger bag and the Lowepro MiniTrekker seemed ideal. Plenty of room for a D300 with 70-300 2.8 and the rest of the gear you mentioned. I am after the computrekker thought which is the same just wit the computer compartment at the back. Well priced too at around £80-£90

I've just decided I was carrying too much gear, so I bought a camera bag which will carry the D2X or D300 and grip, with 18-300mm zoom, and a 20-35 2.8, flash and a few bits and peices.

I went for the Domke F4AF. It's just the right size, and no more, light weight, and of beautiful quality.

Congrats on the Domke! Now, you have to run everywhere with a concerned look on your face, and stop and peek around every corner before proceeding. Other photojournalist tics and bad habits are also expected of you, and if anyone asks you're with Magnum/ Getty/ NationalGeographic [delete as applicable...]

Great Bag, BTW. Plus, as it gets more battered, it looks better and better, like a good leather jacket...

Take a look at the Lowepro Orion AW - it's a belt pack that holds a fair amount but it also has a detachable back pack (suitable for clothes, sandwiches etc) which clips on making it a full rucksack and a shoulder strap which clips in place of the back back to make it a shoulder bag. There is a strap underneath to hold a tripod (mine is the Manfrotto 055 ProB - so not small) or monopod. Very versatile.

Mine holds

D200 with mid zoom (in my case 35-70mm f2.8), D200 + grip with no lens, Telephoto Zoom (in my case a 80-200 f2.8) and either 2 other lenses (in my case 2 of 105mm VR, 50mm f1.8, 10.5mm) or my SB800 flash, I can also squeeze in my SB600 if I try hard. It will also hold enough spare accessories e.g. batteries (both camera and flash), memory cards, remote release etc. to last quite a while.

But full with a tripod it is heavy
