Dont know if this is the correct place to put this, but as i am new, please forgive me if this is the wrong place. Now when taking photos with my lens i am coming up with a black spot. Now i changed lenses and this has not happened with the smaller lens. Now, can i pull the lens apart myself and clean and if so with what? And if not, would i take to a camera shop? Would love your help.

Thanks

Leanne

It would help if you posted an image showing the mark.

Is it really a black spot or a faint grey smudge.
By changing the lens you have ruled out the sensor, so either there is a significant mark on the lens somewhere or it is incompatible with your camera..

Lenses are not normally taken apart by the owner. It is for experts in lens repair.

Which lens and body?

I suggest you tell us what lenses/camera combo this is.

Then also show us an example with each lens to help ID the problem.

Did you set the same aperture when you changed lenses?
Dust on the sensor (the most common cause of dark spots) is more visible at small apertures (large f numbers such as f16) although larger bits of dust can show up at larger apertures (small f numbers such as f8)
If you had different aperture settings, or you cannot remember, try both lenses again at f16. Set to manual focus and point the camera to a light wall, ceiling or sky (the shot does not have to be in focus) you can move the camera while taking the shot as that will blur whatever you are shooting but the spot will stay in the same place and it will be easier to see. If you get the spot with both lenses then it is dust on the sensor. Dust on, or in, a lens will not normally show up in a picture.

Look like it could be dust on the sensor, inside the camera or a mark on the camera mirror or possible some dirt inside the lens or on the front / rear glass

at f/16 it looks like dust on your sensor. A quick blast with a rocket blower should shift it.

Thank you all :)

I just hit the panic button as I only have just started and this happens to me :/

Get used to it, dust is a fact of life when using DSLRs. Its not an issue, just clean the sensor and off you go.

You're not the only one. I did exactly the same thing and changed lenses and it disappeared. It took an age before I discovered it was at different apertures that it appeared. therefore make sure, that if you have someone do this for you, test it at different apertures. A camera shop charged me a tenner but I didn't test it properly and the problem wasn't solved.
