Well I guess you'll ideally want a Carbon Fibre tripod but what make will depend on your budget.

In addition you'll have to think about what tripod head to get (that will depend on what kind of photography your into, personal preference and budget).

I picked up a good Giottos tripod with a ball and socket head for around £300. Having said that you can pick ones up for less.

People do tend to say its a three way triangle. Weight, cost and stability. Take the 2 that you want (to get all 3 in a tripod will set you back serious money).

My advice, go into a local shop (I went into Jacobs) with your kit and try a few out.

Gitzo- light, well made, dependable with good service and reassuringly expensive:lol:

Accept no substitutes or imitations:D

You must b joking :) they cost around £500 :lol:

I dont need the tripod to hold more than 2,5 - 3kg. I really would like it to be as light as possible...

One thing missed out is make sure it has a quick release plate for the tripod head. Nothing worse than having to keep screwing in and out ( the camera to the head I mean) you norty minded people. :naughty::naughty::naughty:

what do u guys think of Velbon? They look quite interesting. Quite tall, light weight to carry, GEO E 440L especially :)

legs+head---> £180;)

You'll be lucky to get a tripod and head that's "really light" and capable of supporting 3kg without wobbling like a neurotic jelly.

One of these, matched with one of these is probably your best bet. Not very light and terribly short though.

Recently just purchased the following and had it out a couple of times and I'm really pleased with it so far, just over a kilo in weight which for me is brilliant.

Slightly over your budget at Warehouse express £ 228.98

Giottos MH1312-652 Series II Ball Head
Giottos MT8240B Carbon Fibre Travel Tripod

got manfrotto 190CXpro3 carbon with manfrotto ball midi head 498rc2 head. The head is a bit heavy for for what i need, but I needed to see the degrees when panning
Thank you all for your thoughts ;)
