Yes
While yes it may only be a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 it was my 70-200mm f2.8 yes it was heavy yes it wasn't the best IQ ever but to me it was bloody great!!!

and . . . . well. . . now its in two pieces :'(

Totally my fault which makes it all the worse :bang:

Never put your camera down to answer the door because the two Lhasa dogs you live with will knock the camera down as they run around excitedly expecting the new visitor and it will break :(

This put an unexpectedly quick end to shooting todays 365 shot, however every cloud and what not there is no broken glass both front and rear optic look fine!! the 50D is a rugged little b****r and is A OK! still shooting fine! and the sigma itself on further inspection seems to have just pulled two cables loose and broken cleanly on the casing so I have arranged for a repair quote tomorrow from a repair shop . . .maybe there is hope!!! :help:

now to hope that my travel insurance will help me out here gonna have to check the Ts and Cs :rules:

rant over . . . and feeling slightly better :) . . . for now . .

I ended up not getting specific insurance for the camera gear as I wasn't sure what I was bringing, and once I was here I just plain forgot :( wishing Id remembered now as id be feeling a lot better!!

I seem to remember having read something in my travellers insurance about it only covering items up to 200 GBP but i shall have to check when the UK wakes up :?

Thanks for the condolence James, this is the first time I'v ever really broken anything of any value I'm always incredibly careful . . . still have my iPod from 5 years ago in mint etc etc which makes this all the more painful :(

I feel for you, i really do, again not a great lens but i have managed to ruin my kit 18-55, same thing really on a chair and someone moved said chair and whoops managed to snap it from the camera. (i did try and repair but then it feel off in the sea!!)

I have also managed to drop my camera on rocks at the beach and caused a few quid of damage! :bonk::bang:

Life sucks when your as clumy as me and have an expensive hobby...KEEP SAVING:lol:

Hi sorry to hear about the lens. I dont think I would need a tiny vent. More like a flaming big rant and a few days stamping about. Good luck with any clames.

That's rubbish. Sorry to hear that. I must be more careful because I have two hyperactive cats and I'm aware that I sometimes leave my camera on a high surface. One day, it's going to end up on the floor.

In fact this thread has prompted me to start looking for dedicated camera insurance rather than rely on my household policy.

Thank you all for the kind words!! :D will update once I'v had it looked at tomorrow really hope its salvageable. . .then will be getting dedicated camera insurance for sure and not forgetting about it this time!!!!! :O

ps don't think iv ever seen a hyperactive cat :S the ones i live with barely move for food :D

I feel for you I almost lost my kit last night I had put it on the bed the wife didn't see it and was about to flick the quilt but I managed to shout stooooppp phew

Well, hyperactive for half an hour per day, asleep for the other 23 and a half. A lot of destruction takes place in those 30 minutes though!

Haha I bet it does!!!

Lens now in for repair apparently in luck and it will only cost $200-250 :(

Lens is back home :D fully repaired and cleaned and generally back to working in fully i.e. in one piece again :P

total came to $185 (Aus) which considering the quote i was relatively pleased with, also got a 6 month warranty on the work :)
