My wife has 7.5"x5" print of her Gran who sadly passed away last year and I need to get it scanned to a decent resolution.

Two questions, is it possible and will the digital file be big enough for me to do PP work and enlarge and do you know anywhere that will do this?

Thanks.

You can do it with your own scanner colin. if you have one! :)

Set it to scan at 300dpi (oh no, don't start that again!!) and you can up the image size bit by bit in photoshop. what size do you want it in the end??

or just scan it at higher than 300dpi and have a larger image without upping it in photoshop (which always makes it looks pixelated to me)

I am trying to scan an old photo at the moment @ 2000dpi just to see what it does, 20mins of sending from scanner to pc so far :|

If you have a scanner, scan it at the highest possible optical resolution. You'll end up with a huge file but will be able to do pretty much anything with it.

Failing that try photographing it, use the 50mm.

Yup I would also say scan it as high as you can. Some may say it's overkill, but if its a one off I'd personally err on the side of overkill, just incase.

You could take it to a photo shop to be done for you, but you may find that if its been taken professionally, alot of places now won't do it for you (copyright reasons...)

That's the problem, I don't have a scanner. Janice has very kindly agreed to scan the photo for me.

Much appreciated.

That is very good of her ... ... she beat me to it as I was going to suggest you could pop round in the week and do it here ... but you're sorted now ... ;)

:p

Well if you are closer to Colin and he doesnt have to post the photo, Ven....then by all means let him do it at yours. I promise I wont take offence.............just a gate! :D

Entirely up to Colin of course Janice ... it is very kind of you to offer after all ... ... and I wouldn't want to tread on anyone's toes at all ... :suspect:

BTB ... GfK needs a gate ... :naughty: ... perhaps you could pass it on to him ... :D

:p

or I've got one sitting here :)

//edit
