Hi all,

I have been struggling with bludomain for well over a month now to get my website with them live. They seem completely incompetent to be honest and so I've decided my £200 is better off either going elsewhere or in my pocket.

So I'm after something that looks professional. The one I was buying from bludomain was this...

http://bludomain14.com/~stewa/index2.php

Anyone got any ideas where I can get something similar, or better etc for that sort of money, and quickly?

Or even any other suggestions on sorting out a site.

Pete

Firstly I wouldn't rush into it. there are loads fo people that can do you a website, in fact you'd be surprised what you can do yourself just by following tutorials online. Or get a template and tweak it for your own tastes especailly if have PS (clicky).

And you can get hosting for under £50 pa (including a domain name, database & email forwarding) so you're looking at a bit of time and effort and £50. The best bit about doing this; complete freedom of putting what you want on it if you want a change you can get it done in hours not days through a help line (and probabaly another £100 charge).

I'm coming at this from a software developer angle but I've known lots of people that have done exactly this and the results have been great.

It's not that I can't learn it all Barry, but I want something up and running now rather than 2 months down the line when I have something I like. I've got the hosting, that's no problem, it's the actual site I need, something professional looking that isn't going to put off prospective clients.

I'm amazed you could get one like the site in your first link for £200. Even a fairly lowly, inexperienced developer would surely charge at least £10 an hour, so that's less than three days' work (assuming 35 hour week!). I've been doing websites for many years, and it'd probably be possible but not easy to build that site in three days, and I'd charge far more per hour! I guess what you can get when they re-use site designs can be quite impressive!

Sorry I can't help, but best of luck in finding someone.

Just get yourself a hosting deal that allows php and mysql databases and fire something up with coppermine.
I did a few peoples websites with this method and they are pretty pleased with the results.
It really only becomes remotely complex if you wish to sell prints direct from your website.
All in all from getting a host to getting your website up and running shouldnt be more than a few days and thats only because it takes the host that long to get everything in place.
my one is http://www.craigfergusonphotography.co.uk/index.php

I added a few of my own things in there as i wasnt entirely happy with the default stuff.
