hi guys!! im on the hunt for a new point and shoot camera.

looking for something with:
at least 14 mp
5x optical zoom
budget of £150 give or take a few quid :)

THOUGH...im not really keen on the lumix! my dad has one and the flash is horrific! makes everyones faces all shiny!

ok guys....what should i get??!! :shrug:

What's it for Tracey? Is it for travelling? Do you need a viewfinder? Do you need it to fit in a pocket?
And why on earth do you need 14 mp?
 
well i have an SLR already, which was bought for taking nice pics of the kids and my cakes etc.

i usually use point n shoots for nights out, short breaks or capturing the kids when im out and about somewhere where its abit awkward pulling my big SLR out! LOL

yeah just a compact camera, just want to know one thats pretty decent.

as for viewfinder, i usually use the LCD on the back with live-view

I think if it was me, I would drop to 12mp and look in the Panasonic Lumix range or the Canon Ixus. Both great cameras and sometimes the extra mp causes more problems with noise etc.. In my opinion I don't see any reason for having more than 10mp unless you want to go above A3 or do some major cropping.
 
You don't need 14 mega pixel surely?!
I'd look for a Canon G7 or G9. Great cameras if you can stretch to their price.
I believe the last one on here went for £175.
 
My OH has a Canon IXUS 95 IS, takes some cracking pictures, daughter has taken some amazing shots with it as well.... The only prob I find with it is that its in metallic pink :lol: Cheap as well so in its within your budget...

I've even thought about selling my clobber an getting one althou it being a Canon :gag:

Tis just a thought & yet another recommendation to drive you :cuckoo:

may have a look at that canon ixus as 2 of you have recommended it :)

Canon IXUS 100IS (does HD video as a bonus) is £129 with a case in Currys at the moment. 3 friends have them, recommended!

my current point n shoot is 6x optical so think i would miss it :(

what do people think about the
powershots? finepix? cybershot?

god didnt think it could be so hard! LOL
 
Panasonic Lumix alwasy get good reviews. We have a 10mp one for the mrs and takes some fab pics
 
Wife has a Lumix which was really good until the lens cover started sticking. You really don't want 14MP on a sensor that small. So much noise. Less is more in this case.
 
ok guya, ive had a scout around (and seeing as i hate using the flash...thought this would be good as it got high iso and good reviews...

only downside it doesnt film in HD but i suppose i dont really need that! :)
