I'm looking for a location to see banded demoiselles. I went fishing on the River Nidd near Harrogate on Monday last week when we had the glorious hot weather. I saw lots of them and wish I took the camera. It's a good place to see them when the weather is warm. But I'd rather go somewhere closer (if possible).

Is there anywhere else I can see them within 1 or 2 hours drive from Keighley?

Sadly I haven't seen any at RSPB Leighton Moss otherwise I may have gone there.

Sorry can't help on location, but just look for slow flowing rivers, streams and ponds lined with vegetation, I see them most in dense nettle lined rivers.

What's wrong with walking the banks of the river Aire upstream of Keighley to Silsden

There’s still time to see them , saw some yesterday on the river Dee , banded and beautiful demoiselle
As Gav said just walk along any river on a sunny day that’s got bankside vegetation and isn’t too shaded, they like sunny spots , if yo go real early and search carefully you will find them perched up on stems and will be easy to photograph as the won’t be so flighty

Saw one on the Wharfe near Iklkley last week whilst fishing but they're not abundant there as they are on the Nidd near Harrogate. I might be going back tomorrow for fishing and I'll take the camera and 100-400mm this time (usually my new 35mm).

Tried the river, but only saw one. I'll try my luck next year.
Took a few photos of the red kite, but it's too far away. There was just one time where I saw it up close but the camera was in my bag. By the time I got it out, it had moved further on
