Hi all, I'm Mynnion
For my college course I'm doing and investigative project module.
I have to research three areas and write 500 words, then go into more detail and write 3000 words. I've already decided that I want to do 'conservation photography' for the 3000 word bit. But my issue is that though its my main are of interest, I don't have much insight in what to say.

So I was wondering if you could help me out with some questions:

What 'want/need' is there for conservation photography?
aka; how often are you called upon, or required to take such pictures

How easy is it to get jobs in this area?

Do specific companies ask again and again or is it more varied?

If going solo, how easy is it to get support or sponsorship?

How easy/difficult is it to get pictures published/bought?

What is a 'favourite' of companies?

Do companies ask for certain types of photograh?
Macro, Landscape, Fisheye and the like

Answering any of these questions would be great

Thanks

~M

The answer to your questions depend entirely on who is asking you to do the photography. Is it private landowners, charitable organisations or Goverment departments? I do work for all three, and to answer your questions would make my wrists ache from a long spell of typing............:)

Is it private landowners, charitable organisations or Goverment departments?

Unfortunately I'm looking for all of them, so it would be, whoever asks the most, and how they manage to persuade you to do it, or if they pay you etcetera.

It's a long shot, but I don't suppose you have skype? Then you wouldn't have to type, and I can more easily explain what I'd like to know. And I could take more notes too.

If I could get a 'small' amount at first, it would be:
- Who asks the most for photographs to be taken in this area?
- How are they likely to ask, either directly you or post on a website for anyone to join in?
- What is the most popular 'landscape' that pictures are wanted of?
So umm, do people more want coastlines, rivers, mountains, flatlands, marshes and the like

And a question that may be more for a personal use, how is the 'best' way to get into wildlife photography?

I have a flickr account [a bit messy, I plan on going through it all and making a portfolio account for all my best] http://www.flickr.com/photos/mynnion/

Any hints and tips for getting known would be great.

And thanks for the link, I'll be reading it lots =].
