Need a little help on lighting 70+ people in a dark room

I'd give you a hand with 3x bowens 500ws, but im too far away to travel

If its between 1st and 15th July - Im in if you want me :) Never been in Newcastle.

Have you thought about either hiring lights or getting someone local to you from here to lend some (and be a willing assistant)?

Could be the way to go because speed lights will not really be powerful enough unless you can get the light way down and the ISO way up.

Are you sure? I'm convinced I'd be able to light a group of 70 with 3 speedlights

So in this thread we've had:

3 speedlights is fine
1 speedlight is fine
Speedlights won't work

Come on guys make your minds up

I have a 5D MK III so can push the ISO up a little if needed so it should be fine, but will try and do it outside anyway if there's a nice spot.

Somebody clever could do the maths for us on this. It's not suck it and see, there are some pretty simple calculations that will tell you the answer.

Start by working out the size of the group, assume half a stop from centre to each edge is acceptable and then work out how far away the flash will have to be to give that then multiply distance by required f stop to get GN.

It ain't rocket surgery ;)

Well I think we can dismiss the single speedlight option as the source appears to be delusional .

Pains me to say it but Kris is right. After having apop at me on another thread. Studio lights. Speed lites are not upto the job. You do not want to raise ISO just to compensate for Speedies lack of power.

People might think they are but if you have correct and arse about on the PC to get the finished result then go ahead waste time faffing about... to what you could get right right in the first place...

one 1000 head will do it 2 600 heads will do it but watch out for cross hair shadows at the back. 3 evenly lit will give you even coverage all cross the shot with out any drop off.

simples.
